LIV Adelaide is turning out to be a huge success, as thousands of people turned up on Friday for the event’s first day. From long queues to spectators cheering for their favorite golfers, the Grange Golf Club promises a lot of thrills over the weekend.

One of the biggest names in the game, Cameron Smith, is turning out to be a massive crowd-puller for the Saudi-backed faction. The Aussie golfer’s presence in Adelaide garnered significant attention, with many even comparing Smith’s effect to Tiger Woods.

In 2022, Smith became just the fifth Australian to win the Open Championship. His major win, along with his PGA Tour victories, catapulted the golfer to great fame. But Smith’s move to Greg Norman’s LIV Golf drew substantial criticism from fans and detractors alike.

However, no love is lost for the 29-year-old as golf fans enthusiastically received Smith’s appearance at LIV Adelaide. The golfer even addressed the hullabaloo surrounding him and the comparisons to golfing legend Tiger Woods. Earlier this month, huge crowds flocked to Augusta to witness the golfing legend in action, despite Woods not being in his best form. Now, Cameron Smith’s popularity in Adelaide is making people reminisce about the golf world’s immense admiration for the 15-time major champion.

In a press conference, the LIV player shared, “Yeah, there’s a lot of people there. A lot of those fairways look quite narrow.” “For me, it’s pretty unreal that people would want to come out and watch me play golf. Yeah, it was epic,” expressed a surprised Smith.

Smith is also the captain of the Ripper GC, an all-Australian team out of the 12 groups in LIV Golf. As for individual rankings, the golfer currently sits at T8, with Talor Gooch at the top of the leaderboard.

Ahead of LIV kicking off its fourth event down under, much was being said about the Aussie Cameron Smith’s appearance at the Grange Golf Club. Even LIV CEO Greg Norman weighed in, speaking highly of Smith’s influence. However, the event in Adelaide has become a “Talor Gooch” show, with the American golfer currently at the top of the leaderboard.

Gooch, whose best finish was 14th place in three LIV events so far, now boasts a 10-shot lead going into the final day of the Adelaide event. He is now 18 holes away from his first-ever win in LIV Golf. Even 6-time major winner Phil Mickelson raved about Gooch’s back-to-back rounds of 62. Masters runner-up and 4-time major winner Brooks Koepka is tied at T2 after the second day at LIV Adelaide.
