One of the most prestigious golf tournaments in the world, the Open Championship is an event in which many players desire to participate. While there are strict guidelines for golfers to qualify for the championship, many of those who do manage to qualify often fail to make the cut. Such was the case for the current World No.8 Max Homa in the tournament that happened last year.

While the American golfer failed to qualify for the third round, he got to play with one of the greatest golfers of all time, Tiger Woods. He opened up recently about the experience of playing alongside his American counterpart. Fans were surprised as he termed the experience as nothing but “crazy”. Let us take a look at what made him say so.

In a recent interview with Golf Monthly, Homa recounted his experiences at the 2022 Open Championship. Although things didn’t pan out the way he wanted them to, he was able to play alongside one of his idols. While neither of the players could make the cut, he considers it an experience that he would never forget.

The 32-year-old continued by saying that he felt goosebumps as he listened to the applause that the great golfer received. “It was crazy, especially because it was at St Andrews, the walk up 18. Unfortunately he [Tiger] missed the cut, but walking up 18 the ovation he got was absurd. It made the hairs stand up on my neck.”. He went on to talk about how the round, which took six hours and fifteen minutes, was fun since he was playing it against Tiger Woods and 2022 US Open winner Matt Fitzpatrick.

The American pro had taken a liking to the golf courses in Britain. The fact that he missed the cut was a hard thing to digest for him. The pro golfer has played a total of two Open Championships before, in 2021 and 2022. In 2021, he had finished T40 with a score of 1-under 279.

Homa’s performances leading up to the Open Championship

Although Homa’s performances in the previous Open championships were disappointing, his golf game has gotten much better as can be seen through some of his recent performances. “My game feels great and I think it is very good. Currently, in the top 10 in the Official World Golf Rankings, the six-time PGA tour winner is confident about his chances.
