On Sunday, Steven Alker clinched the Insperity Invitational title for the second time in a row. The 51-year-old golfer overhauled America’s Steve Striker, clinching his sixth title on the PGA Tour Champions.

The victory was an emotional one for Alker, whose former caddie, Sam Workman, passed away recently after battling cancer. After his win, the New Zealander dedicated the win to Workman in his own special way.

The Insperity Invitational drew to an end in Houston on Sunday, with Steven Alker successfully defending his title. The win was a special one for the golfer, who pointed toward the sky after emerging victorious. This special gesture was in memory of his former caddie and longtime friend, who had passed away earlier this year.

Workman, who hailed from Houston, last caddied in January before being diagnosed with cancer. He passed away about a month later at the age of 65. Some of his relatives were also in attendance at the Woodlands Country Club. So, what did the win mean for the golfer? “Yeah, it’s huge. You obviously see the emotion on 18,” shared Alker. “I just saw a see of orange today, and it reminded me of Sam.

His second Insperity Invitational title was also special to the golfer for another reason. Alker’s son, Ben, was on the bag for him for the first time ever.  “I had my son on the bag. It doesn’t get any better than that,” shared the delighted golfer.

The 2023 Insperity Invitational event was played out over three days,  with Steven Alker coming out as the winner. Unlike in other PGA Tour events, no cuts are made in this tournament. This means all 78 players battled it out on the field through the event’s three rounds.

Alker finished his third round with a 6-under 66 to ensure a four-shot victory over Steve Stricker. Per PGA Tour rules, 15% of the $2.7 million purse went to Alker, who took home $405,000 in earnings. Meanwhile, Steve Stricker, who came solo second, walked away with $237,600.
