Why is Bryson DeChambeau called “Brooksy?”
Great players in competitive sports often develop controversies with each other. Similarly, there have been many feuds in golf. Be it the dislike Tiger Woods and Sergio Garcia have for each other or Phil Mickelson and Vijay Singh’s controversy. But, one controversy that stands out in recent times is that between Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau.
The DeChambeau-Koepka quarrel has been going on for a while now. This has extended to Brooks Koepka’s fans teasing Bryson by calling him “Brooksy.” DeChambeau, who is quite short-tempered, once furiously responded to someone who had called him that, saying, “Whoever is calling me Brooksy needs to get out of here.”
Another time, DeChambeau snapped at a fan and said, “Good one.” His partner on the course at the time, Harris English, spoke up, saying the teasing and heckling were taking a toll on DeChambeau. English said, “It kind of sucks and obviously he hears it, and it affects him a little bit and he doesn’t like it.”
The hate from people online affects DeChambeau
Many reporters and writers agreed that the hate has gone too far, and that DeChambeau is bound to be affected. Shane Ryan, writing for Golf Digest, said, “DeChambeau, of course, has to pretend that none of it bothers him.”

But in reality, that was far from the truth, and the majority of the spectators were starting to see that. “As English noticed, and as everyone with eyes can notice, he’s bothered,” wrote Ryan. His teammate, English, also said that the instigators see Bryson affected by it and are motivated by it. “I think that causes them to do it more,” he said. And expressed it was unfortunate that the people acted like that.
Many suggested that Bryson brought this hatred upon himself by being outspoken and short-tempered. Ryan Phillips, writing for The Big Lead, said, “It’s yet another in a long line of examples of DeChambeau making himself incredibly difficult to root for.” Regardless, Bryson is feeling the heat of it, and it is affecting him, and possibly his game.
