Brian Harman is a name that the golf world is going to remember for a long time now. Courtesy of his dominant presence on the greens at the 2023 Open Championship, he has showcased that strategic skills and precise putting can lead to unimaginable feats on the golf course. The 36-year-old golfer entered the final round of the tournament with an eye-catching lead, but was met with staggering obstacles initially.
However, soon, he overcame those and clinched the $3 million title and the illustrious Claret Jug. Contrary to the golf community, who had witnessed and remarked on Harman’s actions, the golfer hadn’t commented regarding the same. However, now, as the 1-time major winner was directly met with the question about his waggle, he wasn’t left with an option but to provide an explanation regarding the same.

The 2023 Open Championship Winner’s act of wiggling his hips on the greens before taking a shot, grabbed the instant attention of viewers and fans alike. However, it was the last major tournament of the year that arose a reaction from the broadcasters as well. His preparation for the shot accompanied by lots of wiggles, brought out humor from within everyone. It was NBC Live that even went ahead to put a wiggle counter to record the number of times he shifted his weight before hitting the shot!
It was in a recent tweet by Flushing It that the golf world became aware of the reason behind the constant waggle. Harman in the video, is seen answering the question by @PardonMyTake about the “really annoying” waggle. Harman’s response came out to be rather unexpected!
Brian Harman’s take on why he waggles so much is fascinating. Apparently he actually tried to slow down because when he first went on tour he was too fast and it affected his game having to wait around. This is worth a listen.@PardonMyTake

He commenced by laughing and calling the habit to be “awful”, adding “it is not great.” While apologizing to everybody who witnessed his game, he revealed the reason behind the beginning of this uncontrollable custom. Recalling the time he first got on the Tour, he mentioned being “one of the fastest guys on tour” all throughout junior golf, amateur golf, and college golf.
However, Harman confessed how his speed affected his game having to wait around. This was the point when he reached out to Lucas Glover, a close friend of the golf star. He suggested that the PGA Tour pro should take control of his game and slow down a little while he can. And Harman did exactly that, saying, “I made a conscious effort to slow down.”
Further, the Georgian golfer was seen pondering upon how the waggle became a habit to maintain consistency even while slowing down. He reiterated how he was aware of his gameplay being steady, and how it seemed rather annoying to the viewers. But quickly adding ahead, he mentioned that he started to play really well since he gained control of his speed.
While the interviewer appreciated Harman’s honesty about being slow, fans as well could not help but divulge commenting on the habit.
Golf community doesn’t mind a ‘dozen waggles’ as they appreciate Harman’s game at Hoylake
With Brian Harman acknowledging his slow pace and habit of wiggling before a shot, the golf community instantly commented on the same. All the comments would have been a source of happiness for the golfer, seeing how supportive the fans seemed. While mentioning his waggle, the viewers wrote:
At least he owns up to it, heplays alot faster than alot of guys on tour. You just can't watch the waggles then you think he's slow not the case with Brian.

Watched him in the flesh on Sunday and when he steps onto the tee the time taken till he’s setup is minimal so a dozen waggles won’t hurt no one

Some fans even came forward to applaud the golf star’s brilliant skills, commenting:
Good golfer and really smart dude. He’ll sort it out but really, he seems to be playing better than ever the last few seasons 🤷🏻♂️

I abhor slow play, but when you are at the level that he is I can understand it (especially given this explanation) Happy for him that he won The Open, he played outstanding golf.
