Several superstars spend their recreational time on the golf course, with many confessing to becoming addicted to the sport. But two-time Academy Award winner Ben Affleck isn’t among them, and here’s why.

Ben Affleck doesn’t play golf for a weird reason

The 50-year-old must have several friends and colleagues that golf regularly, but that doesn’t force Affleck to join them on the course. The ‘Good Will Hunting’ actor revealed in an interview that he looked at golf as an addiction from which there was no coming back.

“I don’t golf myself. Because I just feel like it eats people’s lives up,” he said. He further reiterated his avoidance of golf and stated that the sport consumed its players.

“I look at golf like meth. They have better teeth, but it doesn’t seem like people ever come out of that,” he said. “Once they start golfing, you just don’t ever see them again.”

Indeed, some Hollywood actors have turned to golf as their primary focus. While they still act and direct films, they keep golf at a close, with the most notable protagonist being Mark Wahlberg.

The 51-year-old has starred in some of the industry’s most successful films, including the Transformers franchise. But his obsession with golf has made headlines, thanks to his stunning golf backyard in his former Beverly Hills home.

The area spanned the same size as a mini-hole, alongside barriers such as deep alabaster bunkers. It also had multiple chipping and pitching areas, with a special emphasis on the greens near the hole.

Wahlberg even filmed for a major media house on his restricted golf haven. But in a piece of heartbreaking news for all golf enthusiasts, the Hollywood megastar decided to sell his famed mansion for $55 million, which was less than his original listing at $87.5 million.

The ‘Uncharted’ actor claimed that he wanted to move states to Vegas to focus on his plans to open a film studio. While it comes at the cost of his luxury home, the merit of the shift remains to be seen.
