While Valhalla roared for Xander Schauffele’s first major victory, his wife, Maya Schauffele, was on a different spectrum of emotion as the PGA Tour pro’s hard work has finally paid off. Through all the highs and the lows, Maya has been with her husband as he found a way to be one of the best golfers in today’s era. And even though they share many things, this one connection makes it more special than it already is.
Born in 1994, Maya Schauffele met her husband in San Diego, where he studied at the San Diego State University, and she was completing her graduation at the University of California. Although they never talked about how they started the relationship in 2014, it seems Japan might be one of the commonalities that attracted them to each other. Schauffele’s father is half German and half French, whereas his mother, Ping-Yi Chen, is Taiwanese, but up until her adult years, she was raised in Japan.
The golfer’s grandparents, uncles, and aunts are situated in the capital, Tokyo. Additionally, according to his interview with Straits Times in 2023, his wife’s mother is also Japanese, and Maya Schauffele is also fluent in the language. Maya Schauffele has American nationality, but her ethnicity is half Japanese and half American. In October 2022, the couple visited the island of Miyakojima, as Schauffele shared on his Instagram and wrote, “Time well spent in Japan with family and friends.”

Have an interesting take?
In 2021, the diva told Golf.com that even after so many years, she was not a golf expert and said, “I’ve gotten the lingo down.” To this, Schauffele jokingly replied, “We are getting there.” So, it is apparent that Maya Schauffele does not play golf but does find time to support her husband from outside the ropes. Having studied administration, she once worked at Planned Parenthood, but as of 2022, she was also working with her husband and taking an active role at the ‘Xander Schauffele Family Foundation’.
She has also been interested in photography and captured her husband quite a few times as he teed up at various PGA Tour events. Currently, Maya and Xander Scahuffele are preparing for the 14th Presidents Cup at the Royal Montreal Golf Club and hoping that the 2-time major champion starts his four-ball session with Tony Finau and wins a point.
