Will Tyrrell Hatton's LIV Golf move eventually eclipse Rory McIlroy's endorsement empire?

Who do you think will win the net worth race between Rory McIlroy and Tyrrell Hatton? The latter made a huge career move in January 2024. After saying that he was pretty comfortable on the PGA Tour and DP World Tour, Hatton joined LIV Golf for $63 million. As it usually happens with the breakaway circuit’s contracts, the Englishman will be paid this million-dollar check in the next few years. Other than his contract fee, Hatton also made millions through LIV Golf events.

The 7-time DP World Tour winner played all 14 events and luckily, broke his three-year winless drought at LIV Golf Nashville. He bagged a check of $ million from there. Then, Hatton proved his worth in the PIF-backed league as he finished inside the top 25 in all the other 13 events and amassed $12,030,263. The money didn’t stop there. At the LIV Golf Individual Championship, Hatton finished solo 4th and added another $4 million, taking his on-course earnings to $16,030,263. Outside of LIV Golf, Hatton also participated in two PGA Tour events, The Sentry and Sony Open in Hawaii, finishing T14 & T13, respectively, and earning $473,385 from these two events.

Then, he posted T9 at the Masters ($540K), T63 at the PGA Championship ($25,202), and T26 at the US Open ($153,281), whereas he missed the cut at the Open. He also won the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship for the third time on the DP World Tour cashing in $800,000 as the winner, finished second at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, and earned another $990,000 from Yas Links. His total on-course money adding up to the other three European league events he played, comes out to be $19,178,993.

Have an interesting take?

But, McIlroy earns more in endorsement than Tyrrell Hatton. He has long-term contracts with Nike, TaylorMade, Optum, Workday and Omega. According to Forbes, McIlroy is 2nd highest-paid golfer in the world with his off-course earnings bagging him $45 million. Per the Sunday Times Rich List, his personal wealth increased from $262 million to $299 million in 2024, and his net worth is estimated to be $83 million. Undoubtedly, McIlroy is way richer than Hatton, this may change if the Englishman wins more and attracts better sponsor deals.
