The 2025 WM Phoenix Open isn’t your typical buttoned-up golf tournament, because TPC Scottsdale has lately been a venue where the beer flows as fast as the birdies, (on some holes). But times have changed now. Starting soon, from Feb 3, fans have booked tickets to a totally revamped arena. If you’re headed to the venue, it is important to respect the basic code of conduct. This is the comeback year for Nick Taylor who bagged the trophy last year.
But before fans get to cheer for their favorite player, they must be wondering about the format of the event. The 2025 WM Phoenix Open follows a classic golf tournament format, and it definitely has a cut. The first two rounds are set to be dynamite, where every stroke counts, and by the time Friday settles after 36 holes, only the top 65 players (and ties) out of 132 are going to stick around for the weekend showdown. The rest? Well, they’ll be packing their bags.
At the 2025 WM Phoenix Open, the prize pool is stacked, and the competition is fierce with a hefty $9.2 million purse up for grabs with 500 FedEx Cup points —a bump from last year’s $8.8 million. The winner will pocket a cool $1.656 million, alongside the points. From last year’s purse, Nick Taylor walked away with $1.584 million for his victory. As for others this year, $1,002,800 is placed for the runner-up while the third place takes home $634,800.

The golf community must have already placed bets on the preferred champions for this year.
The possible winners at the WM Phoenix Open 2025
With 83 top-10 finishes on the PGA Tour, Rickie Fowler could be the one to watch out for, aside from the defending champion. He won the event in 2019, and this edition is his 17th time playing WMPO. The 6-time PGA Tour winner is paired with Theegala and Billy Horschel on Thursday at 2:55 p.m. ET.
Much earlier that day AT 9:53 a.m. ET, Nick Dunlap is set to tee off with his partners, Justin Thomas and Luke Clanton. In this group, one player has got his PGA Tour Card on the line, so he must be looking forward to giving it his all.

Additionally, the world #1 is always the one to look out for. After a long medical break from a kitchen incident, Scottie Scheffler fired a T-9 finish at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am earlier this season. Seems like the current fan favorite could grab the trophy home. However, a few faces are missing in this field.

Viktor Hovland has dropped and been replaced by Paul Waring while Jesper Svensson has taken up Matt Kuchar’s spot. Fans will also be missing out on Shane Lowry, and Rory McIlroy firing up the tee zones for this one.
With a starry field and many good changes, the green event is going to be a great one too. What do you think?
