The PGA Tour heads to its next stop! After the nerve-racking one-hole playoff at the Travelers Championship between World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler and the young talent Tom Kim, the former managed to triumph, fans are eager to see what could happen in Detroit. This week, the Detroit GC will host the 2024 Rocket Mortgage Classic, marking the sixth regular event of the season. But is the event different than other PGA Tour events? Not so much!
The Rocket Mortgage Classic follows a standard stroke play format, spanning 72 holes over four days. After the first 36 holes, the top-scoring players will make the cut. That will determine who will continue to the final rounds. The player with the lowest score at the end of the four rounds will be crowned the winner as it happens in any other tournament. Furthermore, in the event of a tie after 72 holes, the tied champions will have to engage in a hole-by-hole playoff. But what will such a winner receive?
This year’s Rocket Mortgage Classic will offer a total purse of $9.2 million, which is slightly higher than last year’s $8.8 million. The winner will receive $1.6 million, significantly less than the $3.6 million share from the previous week’s Travelers Championship. In addition, the winner will also get 500 FedEx Cup points.

The event faces a challenging spot on the schedule, following three back-to-back significant events: the Memorial, the US Open, and the Travelers Championship. The players want to take some rest and prepare for next month’s busy schedule that includes the final major, and the 2024 Paris Olympics. The consequence is that a few big players have decided to sit out the tournament, but there are still some exciting names who are all ready to tee up!

What does the field of the 2024 Rocket Mortgage Classic look like?
Last year, Rickie Fowler ended his four-and-a-half-year drought on the PGA Tour by claiming victory in a dramatic playoff against Adam Hadwin and Collin Morikawa. As Fowler returns this year, he will aim to replicate his stunning performance. Another exciting entry is 15-year-old Miles Russell, making his PGA Tour debut, thanks to the sponsor exemption. Russell will become one of the youngest players ever to compete in a PGA Tour event.
With some noticeable top-quality professionals such as Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffle, and Rory McIlroy missing the field, it opens the way for others who want to add a PGA Tour title to their bag.
