The Sentry, the PGA TOUR’s first Signature Event of 2025, is just around the corner, and we can’t wait to see the world’s top golfers in action! From January 2-5, the stunning Plantation Course at Kapalua in Kapalua, Maui, Hawaii, will play host to this exciting tournament. The Sentry is the perfect way to kick off the new season, with its unique format and stunning location.
But have you ever wondered how the tournament format works? Specifically, will all players get to enjoy the full Hawaiian experience, or will some be cut short? Unlike some other big tournaments, like The Genesis Invitational, the Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard, and the Memorial Tournament presented by Workday, which all have a 36-hole cut, The Sentry doesn’t have a traditional cut.
That’s right – all players who start the tournament will get to play all four rounds unless they withdraw or are disqualified. This format is part of the PGA TOUR’s revamped schedule, which features eight Signature Events with some serious perks, including increased prize money – a whopping $20 million – and 700 FedExCup points to the winner.

What are the Sentry’s Qualification criteria?
The 2025 PGA Tour season is just around the corner, and fans are eager to see their favorite golfers in action. But have you ever wondered how players qualify for the season-opening event, The Sentry? Well, it’s actually pretty straightforward. To qualify, PGA Tour players need to either finish in the top 50 of the FedEx Cup leaderboard from the previous season or win a PGA Tour event in the previous year.
This means that 65 professional golfers have already secured their spot at The Sentry. However, one notable absence will be Scottie Scheffler, who has withdrawn from the tournament due to a wrist injury that he’s been nursing for a while. Scheffler had an incredible 2024 season, with 7 victories including the Masters Tournament, and his absence will definitely be felt. On the other hand, Xander Schauffele, who had an impressive 2024 season with two major wins, will be looking to carry his momentum into the new season.

However, not everyone is as lucky. Some crowd favorites, like Rickie Fowler and Bryson DeChambeau, didn’t make the cut. Despite their impressive skills, they didn’t meet the qualification criteria, leaving fans wondering if they’ll get to see them in action at The Sentry. With the tournament just around the corner, fans will have to wait and see how the season unfolds and which golfers will rise to the top.
