It’s time for the second LPGA Tour event of the season! The Founders Cup presented by the U.S. Virgin Islands has begun. The event features some prominent names on the field, like Nelly Korda, Charley Hull, and 3x winner Jin Young Ko. The event will be played for a $2 million purse, with the winner taking home $300,000. But that is what the top players on the course will be fighting for.

Those who won’t be able to keep up with the field will have something else to worry about. One of them is losing out on any prize money at all. But will that be the only thing in their mind? That depends on whether the 2025 Founders Cup has a cut.

Does the 2025 Founders Cup have a cut?

The 2025 Founders Cup will be an exciting contest. The biggest names on the LPGA Tour have all signed up for the event, apart from the defending champion, Rose Zhang, and the 2025 HGV Tournament of Champions winner, A Lim Kim. The course is packed for the first couple of days with a 120-player field size. But will it be cut down for the penultimate round of the event?

The simple answer is yes, it will. It’s not always viable to have such a large playing field for all four rounds of a tournament. In such cases, it is normal to have a cut to split the field for the weekend showdown. The 2025 Founders Cup field will be cut to 65 players and ties. The same happened in 2024 as well, which saw a bunch of major stars like Lexi Thompson and Jeeno Thitikul miss the weekend action.

Lexi Thompson is another player who would be eager to prove herself. Having retired from full-time professional golf in 2024, fans are excited to see her back in action so soon. They might also expect Thompson to be in her 2022 form and get close to the top of the table once again in the Founders Cup. Other big names that might also make the list are Ayaka Furue, Celine Boutier, Minjee Lee, and Brooke Henderson.

But the question is, who among them will win the title on Sunday? Or will it be someone else who isn’t a favorite going into the tournament? Share your views in the comment section.
