Taylor Pendrith seems to be playing some of his best golf. Currently leading CJ Cup Bryon Nelson’s field as the event inches towards its conclusion, he has a fair shot at obtaining a seat at the second major of the season, the PGA Championship. However, this would require him to maintain his pace at the CJ CUP Bryon Nelson and possibly aim at the trophy to strengthen his chances further.

He currently stands at 83 in PGA Championship points. Only the top 70 players who have earned the most PGA Championship points from the 2023 Charles Schwab Challenge to the 2024 CJ Cup Byron Nelson (ending May 5, 2024) will earn spots in the field this year. If he wins at the TPC Craig Ranch, he will win his first-ever Tour trophy and possibly make it to the International Presidents Cup team in the coming months.

While still not a part of the Valhalla-based event’s field, the 32-year-old has a fair shot under the prescribed qualification criteria numbers 10 and 14 of the event. While the former guarantees a place to the top 70 players with the most PGA Championship points in the prescribed period, the latter primarily talks about the major championship, considering players beyond the top 70, if necessary, to complete the field.

Pendrith’s key to success in all of this remains, “Stay patient, and play my own game, and don’t get ahead of myself. Make as many birdies as you can, because I think it’ll take a low one tomorrow.” The final list will be declared the next day after the conclusion of the CJ Cup Bryon Nelson. As of now, how does the PGA Championship’s field look like?

Who are some players expected to tee it up at the 2024 PGA Championship?

While the official list is still awaited, sixteen of the past champions of the event are expected to tee it up at the Valhalla Golf Club. This includes the likes of defending champion Brooks Koepka, along with Justin Thomas, Phil Mickelson, Collin Morikawa, Jimmy Walker, Jason Day, Rory McIlroy, and many more.

While Tiger Woods has not officially declared his presence, the four-time PGA Championship winner will most likely be a part of the field as per the promise he made at the Masters. After all, he is determined to add another stripe to his beloved fifteen-striped Sun Day Red logo, which currently represents his 15 major wins. Woods has already accepted an invitation to the U.S. courtesy of a special exemption by the USGA. Earlier this week, he also declared his willingness to make it to all three remaining majors of the season.

A final update on the full field of the event is yet to be announced. Stay tuned to find out the other golfers who will be playing at Valhalla.
