The golf world is not ready for her! Carla Bernat Escuder is making waves in the golf world as she competes in the Augusta National Women’s Amateur. This talented Spanish amateur golfer has been honing her skills under the guidance of a renowned coach. Interestingly, she’s not the only one to benefit from this coach’s expertise, as another top golfer from her hometown has also trained under the same mentor. The swing coach in question is none other than Victor Garcia, the father of LIV Golf superstar Sergio Garcia. It’s here that the connection to Sergio Garcia becomes apparent, as Carla Bernat Escuder and US Amateur champion Josele Ballester both trained under Victor Garcia’s tutelage. The two golfers grew up together in Castellon, attending the same high school, and even made the switch from tennis to golf together.

Bernat Escuder has been making quite a name for herself in the amateur golf scene, with several notable successes. She’s a talented golfer who has claimed the 2021 Spanish International Ladies Amateur title and was a key member of the Spain team that won the 2023 European Ladies’ Team Championship. Her individual performances have also earned her recognition, including being named the 2023 American Athletic Conference (AAC) Women’s Golfer of the Year during her time at Tulane University.

Escuder’s collegiate career has been marked by impressive performances, including her maiden win at the 2022 Ron Moore Intercollegiate. She later transferred to Kansas State University, where she made history by becoming the first player in the program’s history to earn All-America honors.

Carla Bernat’s breakout season

Carla Bernat earned national recognition in her first season with Kansas State women’s golf, making history as the first Wildcat to receive second-team All-American honors from the Women’s Golf Coaches Association of America (WGCA). The Castellon, Spain native was one of just four Big 12 golfers to receive All-American honors from the WGCA, and she had previously achieved the same distinction while playing at Tulane. After transferring to K-State ahead of the 2023-24 season, Bernat set the K-State single-season scoring record with an average of 70.90.

Bernat’s impressive performance was marked by several notable achievements. She was responsible for five of the team’s top 11 54-hole scores and is now tied for third on K-State’s all-time list with two career victories. Her success earned her a spot among the 72 golfers selected to compete in the 2024 Augusta National Women’s Amateur. Additionally, she became just the second Wildcat ever to compete in the NCAA Championship, where she narrowly missed the cut for the final round but still enjoyed the tournament, nonetheless. It’s not only these tournaments that have shaped her into the golfer she is; it’s also the fact that she takes time to rest and recharge before she brings on her A-game. Like the time she went to a carnival in her home country or when she enjoyed her time in Hawaii. But what do you think of her career? Let us know in the comment section below!
