“[Y]ou will see me playing a handful of European Tour events.” So said Sergio Garcia just a few days ago. The Spaniard, 44, knew his hopes of teeing up at his home Tour again depended on the Wentworth-HQ tour’s decisions. Yet, Garcia was hopeful that some amendments, or perhaps a compromise from both sides would be hatched out for his return. That hasn’t been the case yet.
For the record, the Andalucia Masters has a ‘Garcia’ in its entry list. But that’s not the one that many had hoped for. Sergio Garcia still has unresolved conflicts with his former employer. Currently, the nine-time PGA Tour winner is not a member of the DP World Tour, Hence, the Andalucia Masters will miss the three-time former champion.
The Spaniard’s last appearance at the Andalucia Masters came in 2019, where he bagged a solo seventh. The LIV Golf pro has never finished outside the top ten at his home tournament. There is little doubt why Garcia wants to find common ground with the DP World Tour, from where he resigned after it imposed sanctions against him. Garcia still wants a Ryder Cup spot. He wasn’t a part of the European squad in Rome last year. The guidelines require players to be a member of the Wentworth-HQ tour to be eligible for the event.

It’s likely Sergio Garcia plans to hold both LIV Golf and DP World Tour cards. A move that will allow him to split his time between the two tours. Should the Spaniard, certainly the most decorated European star in the Ryder Cup, tee off in four counting events, he would be eligible for the patriotic showdown. And, Sergio Garcia certainly hopes that the imbroglio will soon change. He is actually willing to make some compromise as both his and Luke Donald’s comments reveal.
Sergio Garcia’s current DP World Tour and Ryder Cup status
Garcia last teed off at a DP World Tour event in September 2022. Following the arbitration verdict against him, one that allowed then-CEO, Keith Pelley, & Co. to impose fines, Garcia rescinded his membership. However, the former Masters champion is willing to broker a deal with the DP World Tour now, even if that means making some sacrifices from his end.
“If the selection was right now I would say I would have a good chance, if things were all good with the European Tour and stuff like that. But there is a long way to go until the selection process, so I just need to keep playing well, continue to show good form,” the 13-time DP World Tour winner told Golf Magic recently.

Just a few days before that, Luke Donald, the European captain also revealed that he had had a chat with Sergio Garcia. “He’s certainly very interested in doing that [rejoining Tour]. He understands everything that’s involved and again, the decision has to go to him whether he’s prepared to do all that,” Donald said from New York. As of now, it’s not clear what route Garcia’s eligibility will take. The Spaniard is Europe’s leading point scorer (28.5 points) at the Ryder Cup. His importance is certainly not lost on anyone.
