A love story written on the greens and ice rink! Nelly Korda has added an interesting twist to the Korda family’s sports story by dating NHL player Andreas Athanasiou. Although there is no viable information on how the couple met, they officially made their relationship public with a Thanksgiving photo back in 2019. The duo never misses an opportunity to cheer each other on while at play.

Andreas Athanasiou: The Canadian Pro Hockey Player

Andreas Athanasiou hails from the land of Maple Leaf and was born in Woodbridge, Ontario, to  Nadira Athanasiou and Stanley Athanasiou. The professional ice hockey player plays for the Chicago Blackhawks of the National Hockey League after signing a one-year contract with them in 2022. He extended the contract in 2023. Earlier, he played for the Detroit Red Wings.

The lovers come from different ethnic backgrounds. While Nelly Korda’s father, Petr Korda, is based in the Czech Republic, giving her a European bloodline in all probabilities, the inheritance of Athanasiou is entirely different. The 30-year-old ice hockey player carries a mixture of both Greek and Guyanese descent.

Nelly Korda’s life is pretty much like an open book for her followers, and Andreas Athanasiou has never shied away from showing his love for his beloved either. But this year, the couple were barely seen with any online activity. This made all the followers wonder what was wrong, or if they were at all together.

The LPGA Pro not only climbed to the top of the world rankings but also became the third LPGA pro to achieve five consecutive victories, writing her name alongside legends like Annika Sorenstam, who clinched five wins across the 2004 and 2005 seasons, and Nancy Lopez, who accomplished the feat in 1978. Korda needed a win at the Chevron to join them. Despite such an accolade, there was no display of congratulations from her boyfriend.

There were rumors that the couple might have broken up. However, it was when Nelly Korda put up a story with  Athanasiou on her Instagram account celebrating their years of togetherness that made the rumors fade away!
