The T-Mobile Match Play, sponsored by MGM Rewards, has arrived with several noteworthy updates. Not only have the sponsors changed, but also the tournament’s format, dates, and field size have been revamped for its fourth edition. However, what remains the same is the tee-off from some of the best players and the reigning Champion.
Pajaree Anannarukarn, the defending champion, is competing along the side of Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings No. 1 Nelly Korda. That being noted, Korda is likely aiming for her fourth title of 2024 in her tournament debut, considering she’s competing for the third consecutive week.

Following her wins at the Seri Pak Championship and the Ford Championship in the 2024 season, Korda is now aiming to secure her fourth consecutive victory at the T-Mobile Match Play. According to Golf Channel, If she emerges victorious in this tournament, it would mark a historic fourth consecutive win for her in the season.
In a recent interview with the LPGA Tour Korda shared her sentiments about the T-Mobile match play, believing that “the golf course is amazing” for her to play in. Even though “the wind and conditions” don’t seem favorable, the amazing facility conditions have caught the eye of pros. Aside from that, she also feels “super lucky” to play at Shadow Creek in Las Vegas.
The defending champion is looking to defend her title; and meanwhile, the 25-year-old is here to give her a challenging competition for that. Even though the start for Korda seems slow as Sei Young Kim has an early lead of six under par, the tournament is far from over for Korda to make history in Las Vegas.
What has changed in T-Mobile matchplay?

The T-Mobile matchplay has gone through some major changes in the last few years. It has been announced as the new title sponsor for T-Mobile Match Play presented by MGM Rewards. Following that, an expanded format was introduced to the tournament, where Ninety-six players will compete in the stroke-play competition.

Apart from changes, the tournament’s result carries significance since it will decide the final lineup for the first major of the season, namely The Chevron Championship. So the pros who are yet to qualify for that, can either win in Las Vegas or have a strong finish so that they can change their positions in CME Globe point standings.
