Things started going south for Korda once she opted out of the Mizuho Americas Open at the very last moment. She cited back pain as the reason for missing the tournament at Liberty National Golf Club held on June 1.

The KPMG Women’s PGA Championships was next on the list. Most players have a period when they underperform; the tournament proved to be that period for Korda.

She entered the tournament while being #2 worldwide, no small feat for a 24-year-old. But, her performance proved she still had issues that needed care. She missed the cut brutally after marking 76-77 over the Lower Course.  This would be Korda’s first cut since the US Women’s Open 2021.

Her history of injuries

Her return to th KPMG was after a month-long break from golf. In her words, “When I got back from New Jersey, it didn’t feel right,” Korda said. “I talked with my doctor, and he recommended I take a couple weeks off to rest it before something else flares up from it.”

Fans of the talented golfer were expecting her to make a roaring comeback after her time off. “There’s a lot of torque in the golf swing, so I feel like I’m not the only golfer that kind of struggles with the low back… I honestly wouldn’t be playing if I wasn’t 100%,” she added.

Unfortunately, her break wasn’t enough to get her back into a competing form. Just last year, she underwent surgery to remove a blood clot from her arm.

Even her sister Jessica Korda announced her indefinite break from LPGA competitions due to a lingering back injury. Both sisters suffer from back issues that have started to affect their game. It is highly unlikely that Korda will be making a comeback at the 2023 US Women’s Open, but it would be a treat for the fans if she is in fighting form.
