Will Matthew Wolff participate in the 2023 U.S. Open?

Matthew Wolff is a young golfer in the international arena who turned pro in 2019. The 24-year-old is definitely a powerhouse of talent. There was a time when the golfer displayed skillful performances on the greens, including his brilliant 2019 PGA Tour 3M Open victory. Apart from this, Wolff has always exhibited a powerful talent during PGA Championship and the U.S. Open where he finished T4 and T2 respectively.

Sadly, the post-pandemic era hasn’t been easy for him on professional grounds. After his career break from the PGA Tour, he re-entered the greens as a LIV professional. But, that didn’t change Wolff’s situation much. In fact, the rising star is currently stuck in one of the most prominent LIV Golf dramas. This might have impacted the golfer’s performance as he has not been able to deliver his prime form for the past two months.

But one of the biggest setbacks was when Matthew Wolff withdrew from the 2023 U.S. Open qualifiers. Since the LIV golfers aren’t eligible for OWGR points, they must look out for other methods of joining the field for major tournaments. One of which is through the U.S. Open qualifier. Due to some injury, as reported by Golf Magic, Wolff couldn’t continue his journey on ‘golf’s longest day’ in Boynton Beach.

In fact, from the time Wolff missed the cuts at the 2022 Masters and PGA Championship, he hasn’t participated in any of the four majors. In addition to his, the Californian golfer pulled out from the U.S. Open qualifier last year as well. The action was carried out after an underwhelming driving shot.

Another major complication faced by Wolff

Even though the reason for Wolff’s withdrawal has been some physical injury, the fact that the recent LIV rumors might have created some complications for the golfer as well, stands true. According to the reports, Matt Wolff is no longer part of the Smash GC– the LIV golf team led by Brooks Koepka. Additionally, the professional is also looking for a new team which many speculate would be a difficult feat mid-season.
