Golf had been harder for Matthew Baldwin than he expected it to be. After turning pro in 2008, the Englishman enjoyed only two victories in the next decade. Two years ago, Baldwin was trying to earn the DP World Tour card again, but at the same time, he was struggling financially. Hence, he decided to become an Amazon delivery driver. However, he ended that stint after two or three months of working. Thankfully, his struggles slowly slowed down as he clinched the European League’s membership for the 2023 season and got his maiden victory in the league at the SDC Championship.
Through these various ups and downs of his life, did Baldwin have a partner to support him? Fortunately, he had his love life through it all and it was one of the reasons that the 38-year-old was ready to leave golf. Two years back, when things were certainly bad, Baldwin thought of getting married and starting a family, but his career was going nowhere. But then too, his then-girlfriend, Claire Boaler, was with him. Now, it seems as if the things in life are finally falling into place for Baldwin.
After finally acquiring success on the DP World Tour, Baldwin made it quick to get married. 10 months after his first DP World Tour win, Baldwin tied the knot with Claire Baldwin at the Merrydale Manor in Knutsford, United Kingdom with his close friends and family on January 4th. Writing a heartwarming caption for his wife on Instagram, Baldwin called his partner “the bestest most beautiful person” he had ever seen and said, “I feel so lucky to have met you, fallen in love with you and very honoured to marry you and call you my wife!” He also appreciated those who joined the two in their celebration of love.

Baldwin and Claire’s relationship had seen many different sides of his career. Even though he rarely posts her on his social media, except for the yearly birthday posts, it can be seen that he appreciates the time Claire Baldwin given and the motivation to face his falls. And just as the wedding was magical, the way Baldwin popped the question was even better.

Let’s roll it back to the 2023 season before the SDC Championship win in South Africa. Matthew Baldwin made it to the UAE, two to three weeks before playing the first event of 2023, the Ras Al Khaimah Championship in Dubai. He had his Claire with him too. One day, the 38-year-old decided to do the morning skydiving over Palm Jumeirah and then just a few hours later, on January 15th, 2023, he took Claire to one of the beaches, dropped to his knee, and asked her to marry him. She obviously said yes, and the two were married nearly a year later. Baldwin described it as one of the incredible as he went skydiving and said, “Absolutely exhilarating! Followed by an evening to remember with the most incredible human being ever saying yes!!”

Is Matthew Baldwin's personal life the secret to his success on the DP World Tour?
Have an interesting take?
The two have quite an inspirational relationship as the 1-time DP World Tour had constantly called Claire Baldwin, who makes his life lighter, funnier, and better. The two don’t have any children, but they are dog parents to an American Cockapoo named Barney. As Baldwin’s success has just started, he would wish to enjoy more such wins with his wife and partner in crime.
