Everyone loves an inspirational underdog dog story, and Leona Maguire has a great one. Her career to date has featured a ton of accolades. Furthermore, her home village threw a parade two years ago when she led Europe to the Solheim Cup Victory. With a stellar performance in every tournament, will she play in the 2023 Women’s US Open?

The County Cavan native gave up a swimming career to take up golf. One could say her older sister inspired her. A Pro golfer herself. Lisa Maguire was born 15 minutes before Leona and retired back in 2019. As accolades gather under her belt, her dreams of becoming the first Irish Woman golfer to win a Major are getting that much closer.

The Irish golfer turned pro in 2019, followed by winning the Solheim Cup in 2021. This victory was continued when she took home the 2023 Meijer LPGA Classic title in Michigan. This was her second LPGA Tour title win.

Her performance didn’t dwindle during the KPMG Women’s PGA 2023. During the three days, she demonstrated exceptional skill by achieving the remarkable feat of recording three rounds in the 60s. With a score of 2-under 69 and ending with 7-under par. This made her the only golfer to achieve this.

Her performance continued beating the likes of Celine Borge, Xiyu Lin, and Mel Reid by a one-stroke lead. Things, unfortunately, did not work out in her favor. She ended the tournament four strokes behind the winner, Ruoning Yin. She was in a tie for 11th place, taking home $168,170.
