Will Justin Thomas's near-misses fuel his comeback, or are his best days behind him?

It has been two years since the last time Justin Thomas lifted any trophies. The 31-year-old emerged victorious at the 2022 PGA Championship at the Southern Hills Championship Course in Tulsa, Oklahoma and since then, he’s trying to find the 16th victory of his PGA Tour career. However, in all of the past starts, Thomas has faced nothing but disappointment.

He has been out of the winning circle for quite a time now. But the FedEx Fall season seems to be the perfect time for a victory. The field is usually more diluted than the regular PGA Tour events and thus, for someone like Thomas, it would be easier to win and break his winless streak of two years. So, will he be teeing up at the Butterfield Bermuda Championship held at Port Royal Golf Course, in Southern Parish?

Unfortunately, JT will not play in the event as his name is not on the field. At least for the 2024 season, the 15-time PGA Tour winner has hung up his clubs. However, Thomas might tee up again in December as he did last year at the 2025 Nedbank Golf Challenge in Sun City. It is one of the events from DP World Tour’s Opening Swing. Last year, the 2-time major winner’s best friend on Tour, Max Homa, redeemed himself as he clinched the title and JT finished solo 4th.

Hopefully, if he decides to participate in the Nedbank Golf Challenge, the stars may align and Thomas finally gets to celebrate a victory in two years. And in the past few starts, JT has also shown that his form is slowly coming back, so whenever he plays again, the chances of him are bigger than ever.

From worst to somewhat better, Justin Thomas’s 2024 season

Justin Thomas started with a T3 score at The American Express and it seemed that he was finally on the track to win again. Then he carded three top-15 finishes in the next five starts, but he also missed a cut in the two events, The Genesis Invitational and the PLAYERS Championship. From then onwards, Thomas’s results dwindled.

He was either missing the cut or finding himself outside the top 30. But he was nowhere near winning an event again. As his form was going backward, on the off-site, Thomas started practicing more and more, even going as far as to make dietary and lifestyle changes. So even though he finished T39 at the BMW Championship and nearly made it to the TOUR Championship, he ended the regular season after posting T14.

Then, he also played at the ZOZO Championship in Japan and carded his first-ever runner-up finish, a T2. He was close to ending his two-year winless drought, but misfortune struck as Nico Echavarria took the ZOZO Championship trophy and Thomas missed it by just one stroke. Overall, Justin Thomas started with good form and slipped a bit in the middle of the season, but right before ending the year, he somehow pulled out his best form. Hopefully, this will continue in the 2025 season and JT will pick one or two victories.
