John Daly is one of the wittiest characters in the world of golf. However, the world of golf was shocked and saddened when the golfer announced that he had cancer. Since the announcement, Daly has participated in many golf tournaments and even in the Masters. So how has Daly’s journey on overcoming his cancer illness been?


Two years ago, John Daly publicly announced about being diagnosed with Bladder cancer. As many shared their concern towards the 56-year-old, Daly remained upbeat about his recovery. The golfer revealed that he had been battling kidney stones and back pain for several weeks.

Despite the pain and struggles, Daly has been a regular participant in the PGA Tour Champions since 2020. Moreover, he even has taken part in the 2022 Masters as well as Open Championship. However, he took the help of a cart to move from one hole to another. So what’s the status of his battle with cancer?

Has John Daly defeated his cancer?

Bladder Cancer occurs when cells that make up the urinary bladder start growing, and they develop into tumors over time. This disease is the fourth most common cancer among men. Daly, who has been open about his drinking and smoking habits, was prone to cancer as the illness likely affects people who smoke more often.

Since Daly’s announcement in 2020, fans have been eagerly waiting for each update related to the golfer’s health. Fortunately, he detected the disease early on and underwent surgery to remove the cancer in the same year. However, Daly stated though it was deemed to be successful, the doctors believe a chance of a relapse was a possibility.

At the end of last year, John Daly went on the Nelk Boys’ Full Send Podcast. The 56-year-old talked all about his struggles on and off the course. He gave his fans a much better insight into his ongoing battle with cancer.

Daly said, “The problem is the tumors big, so on has been great. I mean, I got Dr. Ball here in Tampa. He’s awesome. So I go every six months to get checkups now instead of every three months. Do it for five more years”. So the legendary golfer has to do checkups for five more years, despite getting the cancer removed.

However, John Daly is quite confident that his illness is benign at the moment. Moreover, he won the 2021 PNC Championship along with his son, John Daly II. The buoyant spirit of the two-time Major winner has probably been one of the key elements in his fight. We hope to see more of John Daly on the golf course.
