The involvement of LIV golfers in major tournaments has always generated a plethora of inquiries. Different people hold different opinions about their participation. A few LIV golfers are still eligible to compete in majors, thanks to their past wins, and a few are doing everything in their power to get invitations. For the season’s second major too, this is in the works!

After securing a place in the first major of the season via a reputed invite from ANGC, will Joaquin Niemann compete in the 2024 PGA Championship? After all, he put in a lot of work and competed in a lot of Asian Tour and DPWT Tour events to gain OWGR points and recognition, and he let the authorities somewhat overlook his association with LIV.

When Niemann discussed his Masters invitation with GolfWrx in March, the 26-year-old was also asked about the other majors as a follow-up question. The interviewer asked, “So, you’re now in the Masters. You’re in the Open via your win at the Australian Open. PGA Championship, you’ll probably be in.”Niemann then disclosed, “Yeah, I got an invite for the PGA Championship as well. So I’m in that one.” Including the PGA Championship, the golfer is now eligible for three of this year’s four major championships.

The PGA Championship exclusively invites professionals ranked within the top 100 in the world for the year’s second major. Niemann, presently positioned at #91 in the OWGR, has now earned qualification. The Chilean golfer will be seen in competition alongside other LIV golfers who will also be eyeing the win.

Who are the other LIV Golfers competing at the PGA Championship?

Starting with Brooks Koepka, it’s undeniable that he is automatically qualified as he is the defending champion. Koepka will be coming in hot at Valhalla after his win in Singapore. He became the first golfer on the LIV circuit to have four wins to his name. Given the status of past champions, the two-time PGA Championship winner, Phil Mickelson, will certainly be participating at Valhalla Golf Club. Additionally, Martin Kaymer, the PGA Championship winner in 2010, has a spot to compete.

The winners of the Masters, the US Open, and the British Open from the past five years are also guaranteed a spot. With those criteria, Jon Rahm and Dustin Johnson are confirmed to participate, given Rahm’s Masters victory in 2023 and Johnson’s Masters win in 2020. Bryson DeChambeau, who won the US Open in 2020, and Cameron Smith, the victor of the 2022 British Open, will also be among the competitors alongside other LIV golfers.

Finally, Tyrrell Hatton, who finished T15 in the 2023 PGA Championship, is confirmed for the second major of the season. Given his performance at the Masters, there’s anticipation that Patrick Reed might secure a spot, but that remains uncertain as of now.
