South Korean golfer Jin Young Ko is having a great run during this season. She made it to the top ten at the Chevron Championship and claimed victory at the Cognizant Founders Cup. There were also disappointments, like the KPMG Women’s Championship earlier this month.

And with the next week hosting another big tournament of women’s golf, the US Women’s Open, the big question arises: is Jin Young Ko playing at the event? Let’s find out here.

Jin Young Ko’s qualifications to compete at the US Women’s Open

The US Women’s Open is the oldest championship on the LPGA Tour and has the highest purse in women’s golf. It is open to professional or amateur female golfers of all ages. There were more than 2,000 entries for this year’s event which will mark the 78th edition of the tournament.

Jin Young features in the list as she fulfills the criteria quite comfortably. In fact, she fulfills many criteria. Young Ko is qualified on the following basis. She is among the top 10 finishers at the 2022 US Women’s Open Championship. She is also the winner of the 2019 Chevron Championship and Amundi Evian Championship.

And as of May 2023, she is among the top 10 points leaders of the 2023 Race to the CME Globe. Jin Young is also among the top 75 points leaders in the Rolex Rankings.

Earlier this month, Jin Young earned an outstanding achievement as she broke the record for most weeks spent at World No. 1 by spending 159 weeks. Earlier this record was held by Lorena Ochoa who held the top spot for 158 weeks from April 2007 to May 2010.

Jin Young’s history at the US Women’s Open

Jin Young Ko has been participating at the US Open for 6 years and is going from strength to strength. 2020 was a big year when she managed to break into the top ten and was a runner-up. In 2021, she was T7 and last year for the event held at the Pine Needles Lodge & Golf Club, she came in at 4th. It was won by Australia’s Minjee Lee.

This year the event will be held at Pebble Beach Golf Links from 6-9th July and has a prize purse of $10 million. And with her latest performances, she is one of the players to watch out for.
