Has Jhonattan Vegas qualified for The Sentry 2025? The Venezuelan pro has been in the circuit since 2011. In his 13 years in the PGA Tour, Vegas has managed to win 4 titles. He also has 3 runner-up finishes and placed third 4 times in his 18 top-5s throughout his career.
When it comes to the 2024 season, Vegas didn’t start off particularly well. He failed to make the cut 3 times before finally finishing at T22 at the 2024 WM Phoenix Open. He faced 4 more cuts and a few other events in between before arriving at TPC Twin Cities in Blaine, Minnesota.
The field of the 3M Open was packed with prolific players with the likes of Sahith Theegala, Tony Finau, and upcoming star; Nick Dunlap eager to score victories. And for the first couple of rounds, it seemed like any of them could have captured the title.

However, by the end of the 3rd day, there was only one man who looked like a clear winner, Jhonattan Vegas. Out of the 18 holes in round 3, the Venezuelan picked up 8 birdies. The majority of them came in the back 9 where he pushed for 6 scores of 1-under. This included the excellent 17th-hole strokeplay where he placed the ball under 4 feet away from the hole after driving it from the tee.
His 3rd round performance was so good that despite Max Greyserman’s -8 on the last day, he still fell short of the 40-year-old by 1 stroke. The tournament ended with Jhonattan Vegas lifting the 2024 3M Open title; the 4th PGA Tour win of his career.
The win helped Vegas jump from 321 to 86 on the OWGR table and also 80 spots on the FedEx Cup leaderboard. The Venezuelan national finished the year at 70th on the FedEx Cup table. However, his ranking is not what secured his place in The Sentry 2025. As per the qualification criteria for the signature event, winning the 2024 3M Open ensured that Jhonattan Vegas will be teeing off at the Plantation Course in Kapalua Resort in Maui, Hawaii.

Jhonattan Vegas’ previous performances at The Sentry
Jhonattan Vegas’ other 3 victories in the PGA Tour have been spread across 3 years. Prior to the 2024 3M Open, the Maturin-local has won the RBC Canadian Open twice in 2016 & 2017. Vegas has also won the 2011 Bob Hope Classic, which is now known as the American Express tournament. On all 3 occasions, he had qualified for the Tournament of Champions in the following season.
In 2012, the event was known as the Hyundai Tournament of Champions and it was still played at the same course. Back then, Vegas had finished at 27 with a score of 6-over par 298. In the 2017 SBS Tournament of Champions, the Venezuelan bettered his score to end on par, however, his ranking dropped to T30. Jhonattan Vegas’ best performance in the tournament came at the 2018 Sentry Tournament of Champions, where he finished at T7 scoring 13-under par 279. As we can see, his score and performance have gradually improved. It will be interesting to see if he can go all the way through at The Sentry 2025, especially considering that the likes of Scottie Scheffler & Rory McIlroy are missing. Scheffler announced his exit due to an injury a few days ago. McIlroy’s withdrawal still remains a mystery among his fans.
