The FedEx Cup Playoffs have been a long-awaited event on the PGA Tour’s calendar, and it is unbelievable how swiftly it’s coming to an end. The BMW Championship is about to announce the winner and the top 30 players who will continue their streak at the Tour Championship.

Hideki Matsuyama has been a constant face at the Tour Championship for a decade. The 31-year-old PGA Tour pro has 8 career wins and ranks 34th on the Official World Golf Ranks. The question is, will the golfer from the land of the rising sun continue his streak at the 2023 Tour Championship?

The final event of the three FedEx Cup Playoffs is set to begin on the 24th of August in Atlanta, Georgia. The Tour Championship will see the top 30 players emerging from the BMW Championship to play for the prestigious title.

Hideki Matsuyama was a strong contender at the penultimate event at the Olympia Fields CC and had he not injured his back after round 1, he certainly had the potential to continue his decade-long practice of playing at the Tour Championship. The Japanese Pro golfer sadly only amassed 942 points before his withdrawal from the BMW Championship, which puts him in the 47th position of the FedEx Cup points.

As only the top 30 on the FedEx Rankings qualify for the ultimate event, Matsuyama’s decade-long stretch has effectively come to an end. He will not be playing at the Tour Championship this year even if he recovers from the injury to his lower back as per the PGA Tour’s field for the event.

Even though Matsuyama’s long-standing streak is ending, another PGA Tour golfer with a long history at the Tour Championship is soaring.

Rory McIlroy is racing to reclaim his throne

The Irish golfer has a decade-long streak of his own. Ever since his title grabs at the 2014 Open Championship, the former World No. 1 has not won any Major Tournament. Luckily, he also has a stunning reputation at the FedEx Cup Playoffs and he is not ready to forfeit it.

Rory McIlroy won the Tour Championship three times, much like the golf GOAT Tiger Woods. The North Irishman took the crown in the 2015-16, 2018-19, and 2021-22 seasons. If he wins this year, he will have consecutive victories, not to mention, breaking Woods’ record of wins at the prestigious tournament.

He has steadily maintained his position in the top 10, and his fans are simply dying to see him defend his title next week.
