Harold Varner III is looking forward to spending the upcoming month at home in Charlotte after taking a vacation from his newfound life of travel on the LIV Tour. “I wanted to play,” Varner expressed his disappointment by saying according to a report. “And when you really want something…”

Varner regrettably came just short of earning a spot in the elite competition. He had just one week to book a vacation to Los Angeles, but two three-putts and a missed birdie putt on the last hole at Old Chatham Golf Club prevented him from doing so. Varner stated his dissatisfaction while being steadfast and acknowledged the intense yearning that comes with having something that strong.

How did Varner perform at the 2023 US Open qualifier?

A competitive group of 74 applicants competed at Old Chatham on Monday for a chance to win one of the five highly sought-after slots available for the US Open, with two additional alternate positions also up for grabs. It’s interesting to note that after playing the first 18 holes, nine players decided to leave the competition after realizing what was written on the scorecard.

Harold Varner III undoubtedly stood out as the most recognizable candidate among the group of bright competitors. Varner’s appearance on the course drew notice due to his illustrious career and great acclaim. However, Doc Redman, a former caddie at the club and the prestigious 2017 U.S. Amateur champion, enjoyed some notoriety within the walls of Old Chatham, particularly in the neighborhood.

The battle grew fiercer throughout the day, and the leaderboard saw a flurry of outstanding performances. Varner appeared to be comfortably in contention after the first 12 holes of the second 18 when he had a fantastic score of 7 under par. But a wave of players quickly overtook him, scoring in the double digits. Varner made a heroic effort to make a birdie on his last hole, but he came up painfully short. He finished the day at a commendable 8-under par, three strokes off the qualifying standard. Notably, the qualifying score was an outstanding 11-under par.
