The golf world is abuzz with excitement! The Veritex Bank Championship 2024 is ongoing at the Texas Rangers Golf Club in Arlington, Texas. The spotlight has shifted from the championship itself to a rising star: Frankie Capan III. Why? All thanks to his incredible performance! Following his 13-under-58 performance in the Korn Ferry Tour’s Veritex Bank Championship, the 24-year-old has now surpassed the record of 12 under-59 set by #1 golfer Scottie Scheffler on May 3, 2020. However, drawing equal attention alongside Capan is his mother, Charlynn Capan.
Owing to the strong bond between the professional golfer and his mother and their previous on-course appearances together, speculation arose that she would return as his caddy for this year’s tournament. However, it was later clarified that Charlynn was simply present to offer moral support and cheer on her son from the sidelines as he competed, rather than serving as his caddy.

The speculation among enthusiasts stems from the fact that the mother-son duo has been a familiar sight at past tournaments, with Charlynn having previously served as Capan’s caddy. In previous events, she actively engaged in his gameplay, offering support and guidance as his looper, leading to the assumption that she might be reprising that role again.
Throwback to when Charlynn Capan caddied for her son
Charlynn has previously caddied for Frankie at the 2023 3M Open. She kept the young golfer “well-hydrated and fed” as per her mom instincts. “Originally she was supposed to be just a fill-in caddie and the more success we had, the more we realized that she should just keep staying on the bag,” Capan said in Wednesday’s pre-tournament press conference of 2023 3M Open.

“Obviously when we went through Q-School and only lost to nine people, it was pretty evident that she should stay on the bag for a little longer,” said Capan. In 2022, Charlynn Capan assisted her son in navigating all three stages of Q School to secure his Korn Ferry Tour card. They continued working together, culminating in Capan’s participation in the major championship, the 2023 U.S. Open, wherein he had the chance to earn his first PGA Tour card.
As a result, fans began to wonder if Charlynn would again be serving as Capan’s caddy, but as clarified earlier, that’s not the case this time around. Nevertheless, the close bond between the mother-son duo is undeniable. That being said, what are your opinions on the situation? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments below!
