Does having her boyfriend as her caddie give Esther Henseleit an edge at the Solheim Cup?

Esther Henseleit’s rise in women’s golf has been an arduous journey. The 2024 season played the biggest part in the German pro’s life to get recognition for her talent. In the current year, Henseleit carded four top-10 finishes, where two of them were at the Chevron Championship and the Evian Amundi Championship.

Additionally, through various of her top performances, the 25-year-old bagged $930,000 on the LPGA Tour, the most she earned since joining the Tour in 2020. Throughout this journey of ups and downs, her boyfriend, Reece Philips, who is also her caddie and coach, has been beside her. He was one of the reasons why Henseleit has been posting better results, because emotional support on the greens is just as important.

Talking to the LPGA Tour about Philips, the German pro said, “It’s great to have Reece on my bag… He just knows me so well, so he knows what to say in which moment. It’s great to have someone with you all the time who really has your back.” Apart from making headlines on the LPGA Tour, with her boyfriend in the bag, Henseleit also won a silver medal at the Le Golf National in the Paris Olympics. So, has the duo remained paired up for the 2024 Solheim Cup? Absolutely, yes.

Facing Nelly Korda and Allisen Corpuz in the morning foursomes, Philips’ guidance and support would help Henseleit claim the crucial point for Team Europe and make a solid debut in the Solheim Cup. Talking about Philips, since he has been a great help to her girlfriend, has he ever played golf on a professional platform?

Has Esther Hensel’s boyfriend played professional golf?

Before getting together with Esther Henseleit reportedly in 2018, golf was still a major part of Reece Philips’s life. Exactly four years before, the Englishman started his golf journey and turned pro in 2014. The London native used to play on the Alps Tour and the Czech PGA Tour in a bid to qualify through the Q-School and join the higher leagues.

Have an interesting take?

In his short pro career, Philip made the first and only start on the DP World Tour at the 2018 Commercial Bank Qatar Masters. However, he could not play the weekend as he finished T121 and missed the cut. When he struggled to make it on the European Tour, Philips also started as a golf coach in Ware, England. Assumingly, he met Henseleit through one of his stints, and the two have been together since then.

Philips and Henseleit have now shifted to Arizona, as the German pro mostly plays on the LPGA Tour. Interestingly, the two have not yet carded a victory on the LPGA Tour, but as Henseleit has been playing, it does seem not that far away either, although it may take a little more time to grab one!
