Should athletes like Charley Hull be allowed to smoke during tournaments, or is it a bad example?

The injurious habit of smoking is seen with different glasses in the golf world. Take John Daly for example, fans love the veteran despite his smoking habit, well that is exactly the case with Charley Hull. Hull and her smoking habits are pretty popular among golf enthusiasts and even some entities, but is that going to land the LPGA golfer in trouble? Keep reading to find out!

The golfing sensation was prohibited from smoking on the greens of Le Golf National in Paris due to the Olympic rules and now that she is playing the last major of the season, fans are worried if that can happen at the 2024 AIG Women’s Open as well. Well, fans can rest assured because the majors don’t have a rule which prohibits the player from smoking. Don’t believe us? Now you will.

NUCLR GOLF just posted on X a video of Hull making shots at the Old Course in St. Andrews with the caption,  “#LEADER — Charley Hull takes the clubhouse lead at the @AIGWomensOpen after round 1, firing a sizzling 5-under-par 67. She was seen hitting her vape which wasn’t present in Paris at The Olympics.”  Round one is over and Hull is comfortably resting at T1 with an excellent score of 5 under par.

This was not the first time Hull was seen smoking on a golf course, she was spotted smoking on occasion in 2024,  during a practice round at the HSBC Women’s World Championship in Singapore. Seeing the golfer smoke so much, one would think she must be suffering from asthma, and well, to no one’s surprise, she does.

Charley Hull’s asthma struggles at the 2023 AIG Women’s Open

Charley Hull was on the cusp of winning the 2023 AIG Women’s Open title on Sunday when chaos erupted on the green. Just as she hit her pitch shot on the par-3, two protestors from Extinction Rebellion stormed onto the green. And the scene after that was pretty colorful, literally. They released brightly colored smoke flares that filled the air with red and yellow dust.

Hull, who suffers from asthma, was caught off guard without her inhaler. And the golfer was seen fuming at the protesters after that, she said, “What a bunch of idiots, I suffer from asthma, but I didn’t have my inhaler on me, and that stuff was really thick, so no, it was not nice”. Despite this major disturbance, Hull managed to finish on T2 with an amazing score of 8 under par while Lillia Vu took home the trophy with 14 under.
