The sponsors’ exemption at the Genesis Invitational had seen a huge demand, as many wanted to be part of the enormous signature event. Although only four golfers (Adam Scott, Will Zalatoris, and Gary Woodland) were permitted to have it, including the host himself, Recently, it was revealed at the WM Phoenix Open that Charley Hoffman had also requested one.

At TPC Scottsdale, Charley Hoffman started to contend for the first time after his top finish at the 2022 Rocket Mortgage Classic. The golfer got close to breaking his eight-year drought. The last hole was tied between Hoffman and Nick Taylor. He tied the first playoff hole as well; however, at the second playoff hole, Hoffman missed the birdie putt and was defeated.

Though he finished second on the leaderboard, Hoffman earned 300 FedExCup points and a 6-figure check. But even after the best finish in 2024, he was not sure if he could play the next signature event, the Genesis Invitational.

After the playoff, Hoffman shared that he asked Tiger Woods for the sponsor exemption, but Woods said, “They’re all taken,” and so he said to himself, “I’ll play my way in.” Luckily, courtesy of Hoffman’s second finish, he could do just that.

Hoffman was informed at the post-match presser that he will be playing at the Riviera Golf Course as he is fourth on the Aon Swing 5 standings with 315.65 points and eligible for the next signature event. The other golfers are Matthieu Pavon (not playing), Grayson Murray, Christiaan Bezuidenhout, and Kevin Yu.

The 47-year-old golfer was not hoping to hear the news and shared that now he would have to cancel his skiing trip planned to Mammoth in the coming days. Well, the golfer had to do that because he has insisted that even in old age, he has the dream to be the best in the world.

It was truly unexpected to see Hoffman chart the leaderboard last Sunday. Firstly, the golfer had been recovering from skin cancer, and secondly, he had a bad back just before the WM Phoenix Open. However, he proved every doubter wrong and gave intense competition to Canadian Nick Taylor.
