With DeChambeau's earnings skyrocketing, is he now the face of LIV Golf?

Bryson DeChambeau is on a blistering run. The 30-year-old has netted two more top-10s since grabbing his second U.S. Open last month. His team, Crushers GC, is perched at the top of the season-long standings as well. Bryson DeChambeau might seem like the luckiest LIV Golf captain now, but is he the richest LIV golfer? The answer might come off as a shocker.

DeChambeau has earned $4,620,000 from his solo performance at LIV Golf. The Crushers captain has netted six top-10s from his 10 appearances so far. Although he has yet to make a podium finish, his team has landed the crown twice already.

Aside from the 7th in Adelaide, and 11th in Singapore, Crushers have never finished outside top-6 this season. Adding the team bonus Bryson DeChambeau received as a captain, his earnings go up to $4,849,167, per Associated Press

Moreover, DeChambeau’s top-notch performance at the majors has also fattened his pockets. The 30-year-old grabbed $695,000 at Augusta, $1.99M for his solo second at Valhalla, and $4.3 million for his late heroics at Pinehurst No.2. Overall, DeChambeau’s season earnings stand at $11,208,667. But that doesn’t make him the richest golfer on the PIF-funded side.

That honor still belongs to Joaquin Niemann. The Torque GC captain has nabbed a whopping $12,6503,33 this season. $8M of that came from two early victories at LIV Golf Mayakoba and LIV Golf Jeddah. The $12.6M is excluding his earnings from the two majors he played ($242,348)

Let’s also not forget, that Niemann earned €351,234.54 ( roughly $382,476.85) for his T4 at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic. The Chilean International also brought home $130,000 for his solo third at the Asian Tour International Series, Oman.

So, Bryson DeChambeau is still some distance away from topping the LIV Golf money list. The U.S. Open champion’s earnings from the PIF-funded side place him behind Abraham Ancer, Dean Burmester, and Brendan Steele.

Have an interesting take?

It greatly has to do with the $4M winner’s payout which skews the list in favor of one-time winners like Steele. Barring the podium finish at Adelaide, the HyFlyers veteran has yet to come inside the top 10 this season.

Similarly, Carlos Ortiz, the winner at Houston, has only two further top-10s this year. But in the money list, the Mexican golfer sits comfortably ahead of even Jon Rahm, who has top-10s in every tournament except Houston from which he withdrew.

While that puts the LIV Golf story to rest, how does the money list look at the PGA Tour? Bryson DeChambeau has outclassed a handful of PGA Tour’s best in the three majors. How does he tackle them in the money list?

The PGA Tour’s money is, of course, topped by Scottie Scheffler. The two-time major champion has earned more than double the money from the next best, Xander Schauffele. Scheffler has nabbed a staggering $27,696,858 this season.

Scheffler earned a whopping $12 million from the three Signature events triumphs. Another $4.5 million came courtesy of THE PLAYERS Championship. Additionally, his second green jacket put $3.6 million into his pocket. Even LIV’s money-list topper, Joaquin Niemann, hasn’t earned half the money Scheffler racked in the last six months.

If we only put Bryson DeChambeau on the PGA Tour, he would be a comfortable third. The Crushers captain is still behind Xander Schauffele ($12,767,160) but ahead of Rory McIlroy ($10,353,190). Notably, Schauffele has played 17 events, and McIlroy 15, compared to DeChambeau’s 13 (including the majors).

Halfway through the season, this is where we stand. The Tour Championship will greatly affect the PGA Tour money list. Whereas, the LIV Golf’s final season standing will determine who sits at the top of the money list.
