The 2020 U.S. Open winner, Bryson DeChambeau, will be eyeing his second major title at the Pinehurst No.2. The golfer is currently leading the field at the top of the scorecard after round three, with a seven under par 210. During Saturday’s play, the golfer had a setback that could prove futile for the R4 Sunday and upcoming LIV tournaments.

This year, the LIV golfer has had a rather successful major season given his outstanding performances at the Masters and the PGA Championship. He would have thought of making it a more promising outing at the Pinehurst No. 2 but faced a hip injury, which occurred during his play at the par-3 ninth hole.

The LIV golf star had reportedly requested the presence of his physio, as per Jim ‘Bones’ MacKay, the on-course reporter for NBC Sports. After birding the 10th hole, he was able to receive the treatment. Later on, he attributed the injury to his intense schedule, which included not just extensive practice but also additional physical labor.

The 30-year-old golfer also shared the probable cause for the mishap, he said,I’ve been playing a lot of good golf lately, and working on my house, trying to get my house finished, so I haven’t really had time to rest like I want to. Furthermore, the golfer said that “grinding” after his runner-up finish at Valhalla left little time for his recovery.

Fans were hoping that he would not have triggered the hip issues that have rooted back in 2022—that time the golfer first suffered a hairline fracture in his left hand and a labrum tear in his hip. He slipped on the floor while playing ping pong with Sergio Garcia and Joaquin Niemann. As he puts it, “I landed right on my hand. It hurt really bad, and I tore the labrum in my hip too because of how hard I fell on my hip and hand.”

His fall was severe, landing directly on his hand and hip. The pain from this fall forced him to stop hitting golf balls entirely. Reflecting on the incident, he admitted, It started with me not taking care of my hand like I should have, not training it correctly, and not giving it proper rest. His fall in Saudi Arabia was a stark reminder of the physical toll intensive training could take. But what could have gone wrong if DeChambeau had triggered his labrum tear?

How serious can a hip labral tear be for “The Scientist“?

A hip labral tear can pose a significant challenge for golfers like Bryson DeChambeau. His performance relies heavily on precise hip movements crucial for powerful swings in golf. The labrum, a vital cushioning tissue in the hip joint, can tear from repetitive stress or sudden trauma that could affect joint stability and function. The 30-year-old has stated after his slip, It hurt really bad, and I tore the labrum in my hip too because of how hard I fell on my hip and hand.Even a minor tear can lead to discomfort and compromised performance on the course.

Furthermore, its diagnosis requires physical examination and advanced imaging, like MRI scans. That is used to assess the extent of the tear and any associated damage. However, its treatment ranges from conservative measures such as rest, medication, and physical therapy. Depending on the severity of the tear, more invasive arthroscopic surgery has to be performed. The surgery aims to restore the labrum’s integrity and improve hip joint function.

Following surgery, the recovery process requires a dedicated rehabilitation program to regain strength, flexibility, and proper hip mechanics. Returning to a fully competitive form could take four to six months. With this being said, as fans, we hope the one-time major winner gets back on track and gets past the concerning hip issues.
