The second Major of the year is just days away, with the biggest names in golf heading to New York for the 2023 PGA Championship. From defending champion Justin Thomas to 2023 Masters winner and World No. 1 Jon Rahm, the 105th edition of the tournament promises much excitement to fans. However, doubts continue to loom over the participation of players who defected to the Saudi-backed LIV Golf last year.

One LIV pro who has been the subject of much speculation is none other than Mexican-American golfer Abraham Ancer. So, is Ancer going to make an appearance at the impending Major event? Let’s find out!

The Oak Hill Country Club in New York is all set to host the latest edition of the PGA Championship, with the likes of Thomas, Rahm, Rory McIlroy, and Rickie Fowler headlining the event. Golf enthusiasts are now looking forward to the event with bated breath, especially after a crackling PGA vs. LIV showdown at last month’s Masters.

Earlier this year, the requirements for the 2023 PGA Championship was announced by the PGA of America. The top 15 finishers and ties from the 2022 edition of the Major can compete at this year’s event per the qualifying criteria. 32-year-old Ancer, who finished at T9 last year, is expected to be a part of the 156-players field this year.

Ancer was among the many PGA Tour pros whose decision to join Greg Norman’s LIV series last year drew much flak from fans and detractors alike. In February 2023, he emerged victorious at the PIF Saudi International on the Asian Tour by beating the PGA Tour’s Cameron Young. He, however, had a forgettable outing at the 2023 Masters, finishing at T39, and will be hoping for redemption in the coming days.

The 2023 PGA Championship, which will begin on May 18, boasts a highly competitive field this year. 2022 winner and World No. 14 Justin Thomas will be returning to defend the title. All eyes will be focused on the in-form golfer and 2023 Masters winner Jon Rahm, one of the favorites leading up to the event.

15-time Major winner Tiger Woods, will be missing from action owing to his injury-laden struggles. Meanwhile, fan-favorite Jordan Spieth’s appearance remains shrouded in mystery after he withdrew from the AT&T Byron Nelson due to a left wrist injury.

Other than Abraham Ancer, former PGA Championship victors Phil Mickelson, Brooks Koepka, and Martin Kaymer are some of the LIV pros who are also set to compete this year.
