The LIV golfer had won his first major championship at the Augusta National Golf Club in 2004. It became the start of what would be the first of his six majors including three Masters, 2 PGA Championships, and an Open Championship. Moreover, the golfer had gone ahead to share a video of the famous ‘towel drill’ that he engaged in before his win at the 2004 major.
The 45X PGA Tour winner uploaded a video on Twitter that showed him driving the ball on the course while towels were laid out at subsequent intervals. The golfer, in the video, is seen making the shot over and over “to build a reference point” while laying down the towels at “specific yardages up to 175 yards.” He won a tournament after he started doing the drill after which he carried the momentum onto the 2004 Masters, where he emerged victorious.
‘Lefty’ shared the video with the caption “Doing the towel drill (without a sign saying not too)“ as he emphasized himself doing the routine even when the golfer was asked not to. When coming back to Augusta in 2005, he found a board that read “East practice range is for short game only“ which he went ahead to steal and stuff in his SUV after the Champions Dinner. The caption hilariously mentions the same as he practices his drive on the East side of the course.

He never stopped doing the towel routine after that as it helped him get a proper grasp of the reference points on the field. It indubitably led to his game getting better on the course helping him get a lot of wins over the years. But for now, let us take a look at his first-ever successful Augusta appearance.

The 45X PGAT winner marked his name amongst the major winners in 2004 as he finished at the top of the leaderboard with a score of 9-under-par 279. The golfer went ahead to take home a cut of $1,170,000 as he won by a single-stroke lead ahead of Ernie Els who came in second with a score of 280 (-8). The win still holds a special place in his heart as can be seen from the recent video uploaded by Mickelson on his Twitter.
The LIV Golfer had uploaded the video to his social media in which he shared an experience that the pro had during the events that were held at Augusta. But one can’t help but see this as another way for Phil to address the recent gambling controversy as he ended the specific video by mentioning how “he is not a betting man” and then showing the board he took from the course in 2005.
