After the Creator Classic right ahead of the Tour Championship, there will be yet another celebrity face-off. While the pre-tournament event last month was all about golf creators, this time, the entities will be completely off the course. Josh Carpenter reported the news sharing the presser passed on September 5.
He wrote, “Giving the people what they want. NBC says Jimmy Fallon and DJ Khaled will compete in a golf match, the “Cardigan Classic,” on Sept 13, airing at 11:35 pm.” It will be a four-hole match that will be streaming on NBC during the time of the Tonight’s Show hosted by Jimmy Fallon.
“This is faster, it’s funnier. You know, it’s me. There’s just two people you wouldn’t think to see playing each other,” said Fallon, who is referred to as a ‘consistently bad golfer’ before announcing the match on his show. The tournament between the Grammy Award winner and the Grammy-nominated producer will be hosted by the Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course in Lake Tahoe.

However, it is rather different from the regular 18-hole golf tournament. Lake Tahoe, which has been home to golf tournaments for decades now is known for its famous final holes. They will be aiming to put their bombs only on the 17th and 18th holes, and well whoever wins the match, will take home a red cardigan, and of course, immense pride.
While one might think that it is a tournament that the golf community has been eagerly waiting for, looks like the comments say otherwise.
The golf community mocks the Cardigan Classic

Did Jimmy Fallon and DJ Khaled just make a mockery of golf with their cringe-worthy announcement?

During the pandemic, when a lot of people were trying to explore new edges in themselves, DJ Khaled too was determined to one. He was introduced to golf at an early age and loved swinging before he took on music as his career. However, with lots of time during the pandemic, he got back at it and played golf every day. That is how he thinks he got better at the game.
DJ Khaled tries to channel his positivity out into the golf course and also has a catchphrase for it. He says, “Let’s go Golfing.”
On the other hand, Jimmy Fallon is someone who plays Hallway golf just for merriment. He is rather regarded as someone who plays golf instead of being called a golfer. He has made fun of the game several times on his show. Taking to this, one of them commented, “I have to choose between the annoying woke prince and an idiot who says “golfing”. Pass.” While another simply wrote, “Beyond cringe.”
Earlier in July, the duo were engaged in another face-off at the same Lake Tahoe for the same format of tournament. As Jimmy Fallon was headed to tee-off in the 17th hole he started feeling nervous. As he hit his club, the first shot went left. He pulled it left and the ball hit a tree. To his surprise, the ball bounced back and landed on the green.

DJ Khaled was left baffled seeing Fallon’s luck as he won the tournament last time. As per the scripting rules, one of the fans assumed that something similar would happen this time, but it would go the other way around. Taking to this, they wrote, “Hopefully, Khaled will drive into a tree by the 13th”, sarcastically.
While some of them simply could not digest why NBC would come up with such a vague tournament. There are better mergers and unions to focus on according to them. Additionally, the viewership of the golf tournaments has been going down as it is, and this shift might result in more negativity from the fans.
Taking to this, one of them simply denied being a part of it and wrote, “Can’t wait to not watch this”. Another hinting at how only a few will stream in for the match, commented, “Should have a solid 13 viewers”. One of them also called it an “Insult to the game”.
