It’s a true blue American occasion. The fourth Thursday in November is a national holiday in the United States, when we celebrate Thanksgiving. On the face of it, the festival is about giving thanks for a good harvest. In the wider perspective, it’s about thanking those one is thankful of.
Like others, the American golfers on the LPGA Tour also celebrate the festival with grandeur. Different players have different ways to celebrate it. For some, it is also a precursor to Christmas.

No wonder then that Nelly Korda, Lexi Thompson and Michelle Wie West have been celebrating. An ‘outsider’ has also joined the fun – none other than English golfer Charley Hull. Here is what each one is doing for Thanksgiving.
- Nelly Korda
The golfer posted a video on her Instagram handle, where she is seen decorating a Christmas tree with a friend. Michael Bublé’s song ‘It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas’ plays in the background. The post precedes a message from Korda: “Lots going on here”. Nelly recently attended her sister Jessica Korda’s Thanksgiving party. Nelly is soon going to be an aunty and when the two sisters posed for a picture, Jessica’s baby bump was visible.
- Lexi Thompson
A fitness freak, her Instagram story started off on a formal note. “Hope everybody has an amazing Thanksgiving!!” She then jumped on her exercise bike and wrote: “20 miles so I can stuff my face”. A laughing emoji accompanied the post. Following the workout, the one-time Major winner informed that her “Legs are fried now”.
- Charley Hull
Charley has flown to Los Angeles to enjoy the occasion. Her Instagram post read: “Los Angeles. Happy Thanksgiving y’all”. In about a fortnight from now, Hull would pair up with Justin Rose for ‘Team England’ at the Grant Thornton Invitational, a mixed-team golf event.

She struggled with injuries during her illustrious career, but her eyes never betrayed her. Funny enough that the 34-year-old, who won the U.S. Women’s Open in 2014, posted a video of eye-testing on her Instagram handle. She scribbled: “People with perfect vision have no idea how lucky they are”, even as a -7 number flashed on the screen! Is West suffering from nearsightedness?
- Ariya Jutanugarn
She is the odd one out here, for Jutanugarn isn’t celebrating Thanksgiving. Sort of expected, for she is a Thai golfer. But it’s her birthday and she has her own celebrations. Ariya Jutanugarn turned 25 on November 23, and wishes poured in from her friends.

The curtains fell on the LPGA’s 2023 season last Sunday. This has been a pretty good year for women’s golf. The return of a mixed-team event – the Grant Thornton Invitational in December 2023 – after a gap of 24 years would be the icing on the cake.
