Staying fit through workouts is vital for golfers. However, when “workout” is associated with “punishment,” the situation takes an interesting turn, especially for 5-time Major champion Brooks Koepka. Just before the PGA Championship, inquiries emerged regarding his “Punishment Workout,” leading the golfer to respond during a press conference.

After finishing T45 individually and 11th with his team SmashGC featuring Talor Gooch, Graeme McDowell, and Jason Kokrak in LIV Golf Adelaide, the 34-year-old encountered challenges. In response, Ara Suppiah, Hamish, and Kolby, the golfer’s fitness overseers, devised a punishment workout program. The pro appears to have been following it for some time now.

The interviewer began asking, “You mentioned you referenced punishment workouts in Adelaide. How are those different? What do you do to yourself in those workouts and what do you have to do?” The pro responded, highlighting, I mean, I’m not looking for the punishment workout. I just get told.”

Not only that, the interviewer further asked, “What causes that? Are you upset at your approach or the way you played?” As the interviewer wrapped up the question, the 34-year-old commenced his explanation: “It s*cks. It’s not a lot of fun. A lot more running. Very up-tempo, no rest.” Following the 4 to 5 days of this workout routine, Koepka’s body experienced an added strain on his nutrients, leading to a deficiency that ultimately caused the pro to appear pale.

In his response, the pro also emphasized the severe toll it takes on his body. However, the additional running and tempo movements eventually proved crucial in strengthening muscles and enhancing endurance. This punishment workout routine doesn’t appear to be new, as the pro discussed it during LIV Golf Singapore as well.

What did Brooks Koepka previously say about his punishment workout?

At the LIV Golf Singapore event, the interviewer posed a similar question to the pro, asking whether Koepka felt he needed a chip on his shoulder to some extent. In reaction to the question, which underscored his performance, the pro admitted to being mindful of his subpar performance in Australia. It was precisely because of this realization that the 34-year-old engaged in extra-intense workouts during that time as well.
