Bryson DeChambeau's $1M win—Is he the future of golf or just a flash in the pan?

This is going to be one of the greatest rounds of golf ever played.” Donald Trump said this before hitting the greens with Bryson DeChambeau. The ultimate goal was to break 50 from the red tee at Bedminster. It was part of a recurring series where the Crushers captain and a guest golfer try to reach the mark in a two-man scramble. Except for that, there was a bigger goal behind it.

Bryson DeChambeau wanted to reach 1 million subscribers with this collaboration. It took the reigning U.S. Open champion barely a few hours. The two-time major winner gained almost 128K subscribers on July 23 alone.

For comparison, Grant Horvat, a popular YouTube golf host, has a follower count of 741K. Horvat and DeChambeau have played celebrity matches together before. On the other hand, GM Golf, another popular YouTube channel with 1.18 million subscribers, challenged the reigning U.S. Open champion to a 2 million subscriber race.

Thank you so much for your continued support and for joining me on this crazy journey. 1M Subscribers is absolutely insane and is hard to wrap my head around. It wouldn’t be possible without all of you watching. Cheers to all of the amazing memories and moments still to come!” Bryson DeChambeau wrote in an Instagram post.

In the video, Trump and DeChambeau came one stroke shy of breaking 50, stopping at 22-under par from the most forward tees. Reportedly, they shot the episode before Trump’s assassination attempt and Biden dropping out of the race.

Notably, when Trump and Biden engaged in a bitter spat on their golf handicap, DeChambeau suggested hosting a match between the two. The current President shrugged off Trump’s challenge. However, the 45th POTUS latched on the opportunity, it appears.

Have an interesting take?

At one point in the clip, Trump can be heard asking, “Do you think Biden could do that?”, something he has rhetorically asked several times before. Nevertheless, it only solidifies Trump’s relationship with the reigning U.S. Open champion. The duo goes back years, in fact.

Bryson DeChambeau and Donald Trump have an unlikely friendship

Never mind the age gap, Trump and DeChambeau’s relationship predates the LIV Golf Pro-Am, where they played together. In fact, after his first U.S. Open triumph, the Dallas resident celebrated at the Trump National Golf Club in Westchester.

During his last major victory, the 2024 U.S. Open, DeChambeau went to New York as well. The 30-year-old and Eric Trump chugged wine from the trophy. The former POTUS wasn’t present but delivered a video message congratulating the two-time major winner.

Previously, Bryson DeChambeau called himself ‘lucky’ to know the 78-year-old so closely. The Crushers captain also tweeted in support of Trump after the shock assassination attempt. However, he cleared the air to avoid any controversy and iterated that the collaboration was about golf and not politics. Well, he just got what he wanted.
