Phil Mickelson is known for his remarkable career and controversial lifestyle choices. The six-time major winner has been in hot water since an excerpt from a book shed some more disturbing light on his betting addiction.
Mickelson’s betting buddy from the past revealed in an excerpt from his upcoming book that the golfer has made bets totaling $1 billion. He also highlighted that Mickelson had tried to put a wager on the 2012 Ryder Cup. Since the reveal, the fans have disparaged the golfer not a little.

The household name in the game of golf, Phil Mickelson, is not only popular for his gameplay but also because of his off-the-course habits. Mickelson has missed out on the ongoing Ryder Cup after joining the LIV Golf last year. Poor form also played some role.
An excerpt from the book “Gambler: Secrets From a Life at Risk” by Billy Walters detailed the addiction and the bets Phil had placed. Mickelson and Billy were partners in crime as far as betting was concerned. As per Walters, Phil Mickelson tried to put a $400,000 wager on Team US at the Ryder Cup.
In the latest case of fun-ridicule, a fan has taken a dig at the golfer’s betting habits. In a lighthearted post, a golf enthusiast wore a ‘savage’ t-shirt at the 2023 Ryder Cup. The front of the white t-shirt has the following words written on it: “Phil is betting on Europe.” There is also a dollar sign. Whether Phil indulged in betting during the 2012 Ryder Cup or not, one thing is confirmed, the fans will never leave him alone. Mickelson though had dismissed the claims that he had bet on the 2012 edition.

Lefty, speaking to Sports Illustrated, said: “While it is well known that I always enjoy a friendly wager on the course, I would never undermine the integrity of the game.” Even after Phil Mickelson’s denial, the fans have not stopped making fun of him in one way or the other. The post above also put many other fans in action.

This fan pointed out that with Rory McIlroy in the team, it was highly unlikely Mickelson would put his money on the Europeans. Both golfers have a history, as we all know.
Rory is on that team, I’m guessing not

Would be a smart bet

Another hoped Mickelson did put his money on the European side, considering they were in the driver’s seat at the end of first eight match-ups.
I hope so. He’ll be up huge

After the amazing performance by Team Europe on the first day, as per this fan, Mickelson would be crazy not to back the Europeans.
