Jon Rahm is on a roll. Circa 2023 has been excellent for the Spaniard, both in terms of achievements and earnings. Not only has the golfer won the Masters and finished second at the British Open, but also has reportedly earned in excess of $16.5 million solely from the tournaments.
Add another $9 million that Rahm has been given by the PGA Tour as the Player Impact Program (PIP) bonus, and his income from golf this year goes north of $25.5 million. The 29-year-old has been one of the most consistent players throughout the season and has been handsomely rewarded.

Winning the Tournament of Champions and The American Express in the first half of the season gave Jon Rahm $2.7 million and $1.4 million respectively. Becoming the Masters champion made him richer by $3.2 million. Before that, he won The Genesis Invitational title and pocketed $3.6 million. At The Open, Rahm finished second, getting $1.08 million.
Success propelled him to third place in the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR). Only Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy are ahead of him. But how long will Rahm be on the PGA Tour? For he is said to be in advanced negotiations with LIV Golf.
The PGA Tour introduced the PIP bonus scheme a couple seasons ago to share a $100 million bonus pool between its top 20 players. This is a reward determined on impact-quotient, about generating “positive interest” for men’s golf.

As per the figures released by the PGA Tour, Rory McIlroy got $15 million as PIP bonus for the 2022-23 season. But it’s probably a paradox that Tiger Woods, who rarely played this year, has been given $12 million. While Rahm got $9 million despite playing throughout the year and performing admirably.

“The 2023 PGA Tour PIP results are out and Tiger Woods was ‘pipped’ to the number 1 spot by Rory. Tiger has now won $35 million bucks in the PIP rankings despite only playing 5 events in that period! Is this money better spent elsewhere?” Golf fan media Flushing It posted on its X handle.
LIV beckons?
In the Footsteps of Giants Podcast replied to the post on social media, saying: “If your $600m rumour for John Rahm is correct, surely you could be asking that question of LIV?”

Against this backdrop, Jon Rahm is said to be in negotiations with LIV Golf. The Saudi-backed league offers life-changing money and has a shorter season. Some reports claimed that 53-year-old Phil Mickelson received $200 million as signing fee to join the breakaway Tour.
