During this week’s $8.4 million Fortinet Championship, both Homa and Thomas are competing while also preparing to represent Team USA in the upcoming Ryder Cup. In a Wednesday press conference, the 6-time PGA Tour winner faced a question about Thomas being ranked 71st in the FedEx Cup standings earlier this year.

A video clip of this press conference was shared on Instagram by @golf_com. In the video, the PGA Tour star responded to the question with a touch of humor, making light of the situation. In his characteristic Homa style, the 32-year-old hilariously remarked, “I think it would be weird if you just came up and told me that, I guess, would be the first thing.

He then went on to explain that, in a sport as challenging as golf, being ranked 71st was not a terrible outcome. In fact, he claimed it was a testament to how good JT was considering that people were acting like it was “the worst thing ever”. “I know Justin wants to perform better, and he is certainly capable of it,” Homa stated with conviction. “But I don’t think finishing 71st represents a dismal season that we should criticize… I thought he played just fine.

As anticipation builds for the Fortinet Championship, which holds the promise of redemption for JT, Homa’s candid remarks about JT have added to the mounting expectations among fans and observers. They eagerly await the opportunity to witness the on-course camaraderie and sportsmanship between the two golfers.
