Next week LIV Golf is hosting its next event in Jeddah and Phil Mickelson, who hasn’t been able to win any LIV event to date, looks to leave no stone unturned to achieve his first victory. He has geared up well for the event.
And to aid him in fulfilling this aim is also his caddie on the green. It’s an old friend he is banking on in the absence of his brother Tim Mickelson who has carried his bag in recent events. Let’s find out more about this gentleman.

For a long time in his career, Mickelson’s caddie was Jim Mackay but the two split in 2017. Mackay assisted him in almost all of his wins till 2017. However, after the two parted ways, Mickelson’s new bagman was his younger brother Tim Mickelson. Tim has previously coached Jon Rahm at Arizona State and before that, he worked at the University of San Diego for eight years as a golf coach.
With Tim, Phil saw many wins. When Phil won the 2021 PGA Championship, he was by his side. However, Tim won’t be able to help his older brother in Jeddah due to unknown reasons. Hence Mickelson is taking the aid of another expert caddie for the event.
His caddie next week will be Australian Andrew Getson who used to play on the Korn Ferry Tour. He now teaches full-time at the Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona. In his career, Andrew has been a caddie for Kevin Streelman, Si Woo Kim, and sometimes even for Mickelson. So they are old buddies.
Andrew played junior and amateur golf in Australia while attending the Victoria Institute of Sport for 4 years. He earned a Nationwide Tour card at the 2005 PGA TOUR Final Qualifying School but missed the cut in all of his eight starts in the 2006 season. In his career as a caddie, he has found some success.

Andrew Getson’s positive impact on Mickelson
Mickelson acknowledges that Getson’s teachings played a role in his winning the PGA Championship in 2021. Phil says, “He is a tremendous instructor because of his ability to simplify it. He doesn’t cloud my head with a lot of things. When he’s out here with me, he’s able to keep me on track right away if I make a few errors. His guidance has been invaluable to get me back to playing at the highest level because I was striking it very poorly when we started working together.”
