LIV Golf has been considered not a real golf league as compared to other Tours since its inception. But in recent times, the stance of the golf fraternity has softened especially, after Jon Rahm’s defection. Rory McIlroy the most vocal critic of the Norman-lead league has expressed he was “too judgmental” of it. After his change of heart, even spoke in favor of the Spaniard saying, “We need Jon Rahm on the European team, whatever way that can happen.” But not everyone has had a change of heart like the Irishman because there is one PGA Tour veteran, Webb Simpson, who still sees the breakaway league as a potential “threat.”

Simpson has еxprеssеd his concеrn ovеr thе impact of LIV Golf on thе futurе of thе PGA Tour and its playеrs. In an interview with Golfwееk Simpson said that LIV Golf is a “thrеat” that has lurеd away some of the game’s biggest namеs such as Dustin Johnson, and Jon Rahm among other notable golfers.

While he argued that the PGAT does not need changing or reshaping a lot of its mechanisms, he also mentioned that the Saudi-funded league is potentially a big threat to the traditional Tour.  “We don’t need to re-shape a ton of things but we’re in a dire situation with LIV being a threat.”

For quite some months now, the PGA  Tour has been in question by the pros for a lot of things such as poor management, less purse, hectic schedule, and other factors. The board member also shed light on the true feelings of the golfers and said, “For the first time ever players are not seeing the PGA Tour as the greatest place in the world to play.”

Simpson’s interview gave a reality check to the golf world as he discussed many vital issues, such as the new generation preferring money over legacy, former PGAT pros giving up their legacy, and the probable sponsorship scenario of the Tour. The PGA Tour board member boldly accepted ‘greed‘ as a ‘clear exposer’ in the game of golf and elaborated on it.

The American golfer expressed concern about what he sees as a shift in priorities among the younger generation in professional golf. Many of them place a heavy emphasis on financial gain rather than focusing on traditional measures of success. He said, “I believe money can’t make you happy long-term. It’ll make you happy in the short term, but not in the long term.”

Emphasizing his message, he further said, “I love the King of Israel from the Song of Solomon. He had everything, and he said, “He who loves money will not be satisfied with money.” So, I’m trying to get the message out.”
