In a recent Heng Time episode on YouTube, host and on-course commentator Su-Ann Heng chatted with LIV player Phil Mickelson. The golfer took the greens with Heng as the two talked about the season closing of the 2023 leg of LIV Golf.
While playing on the greens, the veteran golfer was asked about his passions. Heng noted that she had never seen Mickelson without his coffee tumbler and mentioned that coffee saved his life, Mickelson says that he got psoriatic arthritis in 2010, and before that, he had never drank coffee. He mentioned that he wanted to get off meds, and so he switched to some herbs.
Talking about what his doctor said, Mickelson added, “He says, ‘Your immune system is out of balance. You have too much Th1 cells and not enough Th2…’ he says, ‘You’ve got to stop taking echinacea,’ which is an herb a lot of people take to try to help their immune system.” The player added, “I’m toxic to that (echinacea).” He eventually stopped taking the herb and replaced it with coffee.
“Drink Coffee, take Resveratrol (stilbenoid) and green tea extract,” Michelson added. He continued and, while concluding, said, “So I started doing that. And I was able to get my arthritis in remission. I’ve been off all meds for 6, 7, 8 years now.”
