Golf is more than just hitting a ball and making impressive shots. Many come up with theories on what makes golf more than just a game. The greatest belief around everyone is that Golf is a mind game, with many veteran golfers vouching for it. This includes ‘The Golden Bear’, Jack Nicklaus, who once said, “Don’t ever try to tell me golf is not 99.9 percent a mental game.” However, there remains widespread skepticism surrounding its value. Many greats have come forward and given different scenarios regarding this belief. And this time, the man who has set a huge hurdle for Tiger Woods in the US Senior Open has different views regarding the mental myth. Let’s find out!

Two-time Masters champion’s views on golf

Bernhard Langer, the previous champion in 2014, 2015, and 2016, is prepared to add another trophy to his collection after this recent win at the U.S Senior Open. At the press conference preceding the event, he talked about how he believes that golf is not actually a mental game, contradicting the belief of other legends. The PGA Tour Champions shared a snippet of Langer’s views on its official Twitter account.

Langer dispelled the long-held belief that golf is 90% mental. He stated that when two players are playing at the same level of talent, skill, and technique, golf turns into a mental game. However, that isn’t how games are played. The person with the poorest mentality can outperform the person with the best, because of their varied methods and experiences. ”You could be one of the best mental in the world, I could be the worst, and I’m still going to beat you out there just because of the different technique we have, and the different experience we have,” expressed Langer.

Well, it won’t be wrong to agree with Langer that ultimately it’s the golfer’s skills, not his mind, that make a difference. The veteran with his exceptional skills is arguably the most successful player in the history of the PGA Tour Champions, but he might be unknowingly creating massive hurdles for Tiger Woods in the future!

At the 43rd US Senior Open, Langer broke the record tie with Hale Irwin by winning his 46th PGA Tour title. This ascended him to the top of the tree.

His incredible win set the record high, and many fans assumed that this would be tough for Woods when he moves to senior golf. If Langer wins his fourth Kaulig Companies Championship title, things might get tougher for Woods, given his consistent struggle with injuries.
