Shaft actor dies at 81

Dubbed as the first action hero of his race, Richard Roundtree passed away on October 24. He is well known for his iconic role as John Shaft in the film Shaft and its installments. The news came as a matter of huge dismay to many, as the great actor died on Tuesday at the age of 81 from complications arising due to pancreatic cancer. 

This actor became a spearhead for the African-American community in the film industry and showed the path to many budding actors who dreamt of having a career in acting. The actor was also featured in the all-time-best thriller Se7en, where he acted alongside Brad Pitt. However, the actor spent his last days not shooting but with his family.

Following his passing, several took to social media to offer their condolences. Including Annika Sorenstam’s husband, Mike McGee, shared a post by Matthew Laurance and wrote, “I’m sorry”.

It’s no doubt that Jackson shared a close connection with Roundtree as one of the many African-American actors to act alongside the acting legend.

Actor Matt Knudsen also wrote that both actors enjoyed golf together, and the demise is a matter of great sadness to him. “Rest in Power Richard Roundtree. Incredible talent. International superstar. Class act all the way. One day, Richard and I played golf as a twosome. We’d never met, but it was just the two of us playing and laughing for hours. What a man, what a memory.”
