Ever since turning pro in 2016, Bryson DeChambeau has been a prominent name in the golfing world. The California-born player is highly regarded for his impressive game coupled with his stately body transformation. However, with the good, also comes the bad. Looking at the other side of the coin, DeChambeau has also been a victim of massive negativity.

The 29-year-old has been known for his steps to promote science as the way to play golf. Something, that, with time has resulted in him being nicknamed the ‘mad scientist’ of golf. However, the steps to evolving the game haven’t had a present reception from a handful section of fans, which, time and again, have showered massive negativity upon DeChambeau.

Bryson DeChambeau opens up about dealing with negativity

Having his calculations in place, last year, DeChambeau sailed over his opponents to capture the 2021 Arnold Palmer Invitational event. In addition to that, he also impressed the golf world with his 2nd position finish at the 2021 BMW Championship. Following the monumental performances, he participated in a podcast. During the podcast, he opened up about dealing with negativity.

“I just want people to realize that I’m trying to do good for the game,” he started.

DeChambeau had been rapidly climbing the ladder of success. However, despite the upward trend in his career, he opted to pull back from hiring agents or management teams to take care of his social media. In simpler words, it was DeChambeau who was reading all the praise from his fans. However, on the other hand, it was also he who was reading the negativity and criticism from the golf world.

Going further in the conversation, he said, “So whenever people are saying things.”

DeChambeau had been the flag bearer of science and technology in golf. Justifying his intention, he had always put himself as the well-wisher of the game. The podcast was no different. Going further in the conversation, he re-emphasized his positive intentions behind him wanting to use science and technology in golf.

“I’m really sad because I want people to know that I’m trying to do my best for the game of golf, and there’s going to be people who say that I’m doing the worst thing for the game,” he said.

Criticism is hard to digest. However, what takes the upper hand is how one deals with it. Putting DeChambeau’s way of dealing with criticism in words, it was nothing but ‘grace’. Alluringly taking the criticism, he ended by saying, “I understand that. But they come from a different perspective, and I respect that. I have no issue with that.”

Even though DeChambeau has been a victim of criticism, it hasn’t stopped him from following his methods. The ‘mad scientist’ of golf continues to play with science, performing new experiments in his game every now and then. Goes without saying, it has clearly been a beneficial bet for him.
