One of the oldest continuing events of the LPGA tour was founded 51 years ago. The Portland Classic is underway at the Columbia Edgewater Macan Course. The prize purse for the event is a whopping $1,500,000.

The leader, Perrine Delacour, is currently at 14 under par after the conclusion of round 2. Following her in the chase is Linn Grant who is just a shot behind the leader. Surprisingly since Grants’s win at the Dana Open, she has not finished outside of the top 20 at the LPGA even once. In a post-conference, she decodes the key to this run.

Linn Grant has been displaying excellent form since winning the Dana Open. She has continued to carry forward the momentum of the victory and has translated the skills to fetch lower scores, leading to better finishes in the events.

In a post-round conference, she was asked about her key to success. Without any doubts in her mind, she said, “I think I’m overall very solid.” She further went on to point out that she doesn’t put pressure on herself and is aware that not every day can be a perfect day.

Being aware of this imperfection, she sees every day as a new day and knows she has to make it all work, and that is something she admits to being good at. She said, “I think I’m pretty good at making work even on the days I don’t feel like I got it.”

This optimistic mentality that every day is a new day keeps her going and keeps her performance at peak. As the saying goes, golf is played on a five-and-a-half-inch course… the space between your ears!

Consistency over supremacy, Linn Grant’s winning mentality

If one has mastery over this 5-inch space, one can conquer any course in the world. Linn Grant has undoubtedly developed a mentality that many veterans even today struggle with – To ‘wrestle to earn’.

According to her, this mentality stems from “how you want to be as a player.” She did not hesitate in admitting that some players are going to have more wins but at the same time, she was well aware that golf is all about ups and downs. The challenge for her is to feel good every week and be inside the top 10 as much as possible even on her worst days. She values consistency over the supremacy of winning.

Therefore, the mental fortitude of Linn Grant is the key to the success that she holds today. Her key goal of being consistent is clearly being met with the constant top 20 finishes that she has been bagging.
